The sun may be around for a billion years but the way the human are DEgressing, none of us will be around here for it anyway. In fact here is my theory..... The human race will collectively blow each other up, which will blast earth off it's orbit and set a collision course with the sun. The Earth will heat up +1000º and melt into a oblivion. (Sarcasm? well...kinda...kinda not)

Answer to prevent this: Unless the world comes together, don't think there is one.

A BILLION years? This is as relevant as "can humanity survive the end of the universe?"

Humans have been around for 40,000-50,000 years and neanderthals lived for 600,000 years. We could conceivably nuke ourselves into oblivion tomorrow.

"Does humanity stand a chance against our sun's ultimate fate?"

Not if we hang around here, we don't

Basically, the short answer to the poster's question, "Does humanity stand a chance against our sun's ultimate fate?," is: NO, we don't.

I enjoyed this video nonetheless because the vampire drawing was hilarious.

That was probably the most useless one of these by any stretch of the imagination, they're usually pretty interesting, but this one was was silly.

Surprised they didn't raise the possibility of the Sun finally getting so bored that it actually fakes its own death.

Simple really!

Or Superman could just push the Earth around, like he did several times in the comic books...

It seems probable, since we are still evolving, that in a couple of hundred million years our descendants (should we have any) will be as different from us as we are from dead Uncle Alotheria.
