But Betty White looked like an attractive middle-aged woman in the fifties, and now, fifty years later, she pretty much looks the same, except she's a bit creaky, and has white hair. Scary, eh?

And OMG, these guys make everyone after 1940 or so sound sick and pathetic.

I love Raymond Scott, and yeah, I think nearly everyone back then did look old. Don't know why, and it wasn't everyone, because my parent's wedding photo shows two kids, but yeah, look at old tv show videos and movies, and yeah. They did look old.

@Ollie

Apparently, Scott liked the word "quintet" better than "sextet," and thought the French spelling "quintette" looked classy. So, he didn't count himself.

What does that quintette have six people in it? Maybe they're not counting the drummer. After all, drummers really aren't musicians, now, are they?

@drawman

"Was everyone born old in those days?"

Here's a good one. The original drummer for the Raymond Scott Quintette was John Williams, Sr. -- the father of John Williams the film composer. I don't know if that's him in this clip.

@bordo

Warner Brothers purchased the Raymond Scott catalog, which gave Carl Stalling a lot of great pieces to adapt/arrange for the cartoons in the 40's. So many of those pieces became part of our musical DNA.

I was very surprised when I found out that both the chase tune and the assembly line tune were preexisting pieces of music instead purpose made for cartoons. Interesting early version of a 60's light show.
