HG & Squrlz: IAB is dominated by liberals, that's not even debatable. Now you want to shut people like 5Cats up. Well how typically liberal that is. Obama tries to shut up the Tea Party via the IRS and you two would like to follow that here on IAB.

"I really feel like it is time to look elsewhere."

Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.

"I-A-B doesn't seem to care about content one way or the other.."

I've seen many submissions completely ignored and some even deleted off the Live Submissions list in the past, simply because of their political content. So your accusations, that IAB doesn't care, are bunk.

"I-A-B spend so much as a dime on enhancing the website's code."

It's been this way a long time, we've all expressed concern over it's form and function. Either get used to it or don't, but griping about it won't get you results, trust me.

@ HolyGod: Failing your enhancements, another approach would be a rule stipulating that no single individual can post more than two political links per week. That would help.

But I suspect your original thoughts concerning all this are correct: I-A-B doesn't seem to care about content one way or the other, provided it generates page views. And that brings me back to the ethical aspect of all this. *sigh*

@ HolyGod: Your ideas are excellent. I'd be all for it. Unfortunately, in the years I've been here, I haven't seen I-A-B spend so much as a dime on enhancing the website's code. Investing in the infrastructure doesn't appear to be, shall we say, high on the list of priorities. So as great as your ideas are (and they are great; I can see why you're an entrepreneur), I see little hope of them being enacted.

I'm sure 5cats will jump in and say we are just the liberal brigade trying to shut him down like hitler killed jews and this is all a conspiracy.

However if somebody was filling the site with biased drivel from liberal blogs and media that was getting down-voted I'd be JUST as irritated.

I work all day. I don't have time to scour the internet for interesting and entertaining stuff. This is the one site I come to and I really feel like it is time to look elsewhere.

"You may be right about that"

There is just no other reason I can fathom. They know how his posts are rated. Just look at how many conservative-biased, democrat-bashing, shutdown / healthcare related content of his has been posted in the last week. 7. Their ratings?
1.4
1.9
1.8
1.9
1.9
2.3
2.1

That is SHOCKINGLY low considering 1.0 is the LOWEST POSSIBLE SCORE.

What is the point of the ratings system then? Obviously it does NOTHING to influence content.

IAB should implement a system. If your average submission rating for a week falls below 2.5 then none of your submissions get posted the next week.

Wouldn't that work to make the site more full of content the group as a whole ACTUALLY enjoys? I mean if shows get bad ratings they get kicked off the air. How much more clear can we all make it that we don't want this s.hit filling up our site?

@ HolyGod: You may be right about that--and if you are, I may leave I-A-B. I've been giving a lot of thought regarding doing just that today. Participating on a website that promotes partisan vitriol seems to me to be hard to defend from an ethical standpoint.

You see, the problem is this: If I stay here, I feel compelled to combat his thought-garbage and lies lest my silence be interpreted as endorsement. And frankly, I just want to come onto an entertainment website to have fun--not to wage battles against one person's obsessions and hatreds, day in and day out.

"Fancy and the mods should have banned him long ago. (Is ANYONE in IAB HQ listening?) He has HIJACKED what used to be an entertaining website into a vehicle to push his venomous, narrow-minded, far-right agenda."

He submits it, but THEY post it. I've said it before, but IAB LOVES 5Cats. His posts get TONS of hits because we come on here to argue with him and tell him how much his submissions suck. Hits is all they care about from a business perspective, OBVIOUSLY. If they cared about making a site full of content its users actually enjoyed they wouldn't approve 5 posts a day from a guy whose posts routinely get below a 2 rating.

I concur.

YOU'RE RIGHT ON THE MONEY WITH YOUR ASSESSMENT OF 5CATS. HIS OPINIONS ARE IRREFUTABLE FACTS AND YOU'LL NEVER, I REPEAT NEVER, WIN AN ARGUMENT WITH HIM. THE INSTANT YOU REBUT ONE OF HIS STATEMENTS, REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY FACTS/SOURCES YOU CITE, HE IMMEDIATELY PERCEIVES IT AS A PERSONAL ATTACK AND GOES FULL RETARD. IT'S NOT WORTH IT, TRUST ME.

It's getting so that I feel like I have to take a shower every time I visit this website so as to get all the vitriolic slime off my fur.

How hard can I ditto this? Repeat it in all caps? OK.

"Our side has the Tea Party."

Yep, and you and all the people in that picture will be dead in 20-30 years and our society will be better off. Enjoy your shrinking sphere of influence while you can. Every obituary shrinks the republican party.

@whodat6484 "I repeat NEVER, win an argument with him."

That's the problem right there. We live in a democracy (well, representative republic anyway). Democratic rule requires reasoned debate and compromise. If one side wins, we all actually loose. We need both conservative and liberal worldviews in order to have a healthy society. One keeps us evolving (moving forward) while the other keeps society from becoming unstable with change.

The real "battle" going on is extremists vs. moderates. The media hypes up the controversy to sell their programming and the viewers keep thinking in an us-vs-them mentality that just helps to promote a broken system.

I don't have an issue with most of the views expressed here for the most part (my opinion isn't better than anyone else's), but I do have an issue with the blatant manipulation of facts in order to promote that agenda.

The GOP's attempts to reopen these parks are them trying to save face after throwing a temper tantrum over Obamacare.

People want health care, get over it. You don't shut down the whole government just because you don't get your way.

This whole thing is poo. The Republican party is poo. Stop posting crap like this.

@5cats, I must apologize for the insult if it hurt your feelings. I thought you'd have thicker skin than this given the insults you tend to throw out yourself.

I promise to be more careful in the future and try not to say something that would hurt your feelings. Just to be sure, this is what I believe are your rules for engagement:
1.) Do not disagree with 5cats, or any of his Internet friends. Their opinions are really just facts so there is nothing to argue over.
2.) Do not make fun of the fact that 5cats is Canadian, but is creepily passionate about US politics.
3.) Do not question half-truths, lies-masked-as-truths, or opinions-stated-as-truths unless the person happens to be Liberal.

Did you want to add any? Maybe something about "no your Momma jokes" or something like that?

And yes, I understand that while I have to follow these rules, you are under no obligation to follow anything.

@CrakrJak "It was Obama's direct orders to close outdoor parks, Republicans had nothing to do with that."

You are being disingenuous here. Either you have no understanding as to how the government works, or you are trying to create a fictional story that people with less understanding might believe. If I change the political party and topic a bit, it becomes perfectly clear how unreasonable your argument is.

If Dems were out to defund the military and used budget talks to shut down the government over it, I'd expect a Republican president to not compromise. I'd expect the prez to shut down many things, but I wouldn't blame him over it. He's not the one who refused to pass a budget and failed to fund those programs.

But I wouldn't be surprised at all if your doppelganger came out and said, "Republican Prez is killing babies 'cause he shut down food stamps!"

That statement is no more absurd than yours is.

T-T-TRIPLE SHOT!

Hey @panzerlenis: How about you discuss the TOPIC and refrain from the PERSONAL ATTACKS troll-boy? Oh right! You cannot defend Obama, so you have to attack any who DARE question him!

Post #1: Yellowstone Park: Actually? Did I submit that one?

Post #2: Obama shuts down the Iwo Jima Memorial? Actual Veterans of the Iwo Jima Campaign re-take it! Not nearly as difficult as the island...

Iwo Jima: Feb & March 1945

Post #3 Police actually remove citizens from the Vietnam Memorial. Some IABers claimed this wasn't happening? Well it is! Ordered by The White House directly...

Remember The Bastille IAB Liberals? It was perfectly "legal" too!

pazerlenis: "conservatives are playing a bigger part in the shutdown than anyone else."

It was Obama's direct orders to close outdoor parks, Republicans had nothing to do with that.
The house republicans have also passed several budgets that Harry Reid hasn't even allowed a vote on in the senate. The last budget the senate passed was on April 29th 2009, that was over 1600 days ago.

@CrakrJak Oh, I didn't realize the US Gov't closing was going to close national parks in Canada too (since that was what I was talking about and what the article is about).

I also like how you gloss over the fact that conservatives are playing a bigger part in the shutdown than anyone else.

But please, carry on. You don't look silly at all. Not. One. Bit.
