"So many interesting things about this historically precious video."

For one you learn, it took a hell of a lot of effort and skilled labor to make it. Nowadays this is all done with machines using photo etching on the nano-scale.

So many interesting things about this historically precious video. For one thing, you see the beginning of the development of integrated circuits. Anyone thinking that we didn't benefit enormously from the technology that NASA pioneered in the Space Race needs to watch this.

I never understood the point of comparing old and new tech.

They why did you keep talking after that?

I never understood the point of comparing old and new tech. We progress, we move forward, we learn new ways of doing things, it's what humans do. Of course we have more power in a smaller package now. The fact is, the tech at the time was good enough to do the job or it wouldn't have been successful so the fact we have these smaller more powerful items now is a moot point.

Ten years ago, we used to quip about how you had more computing power in your car than they had in the Apollo spacecraft that went to the moon.

Now you have more computing power in your phone.

Link: How The Apollo Computers Were Made [Rate Link] - A documentary illustrating the design, build and use of the Apollo Guidance Computer. Interesting.
