Visual Cliff? It was NOTHING like that! Oh FFS! It's one of the few demonstrations where "human instinct" is actually provable. Not 100% but much higher than "chance".

David Reimer: It's MUCH worse that this brief clip indicates...

The clown one sounds fantastic. Should be on the learning curriculum in every preschool.

My children are a disturbing experiment.

Far too disturbing sometimes.

An awful lot off B.S. here
Robber's Cave - the experiment ended up proving that if the two "teams" cooperated toward a common goal, they would no longer have interpersonal conflicts.

Little Albert - John Watson and Rosalie Rayner proved that repeated exposure to the feared object, without the loud bang, would eliminate the fear response. This is still the best treatment for phobias today.

Visual Cliff - Gerry is right. No danger.

Broken Toy - the experiment was to see if the child would admit wrongdoing or try to hide it, and how that related to other personality traits. It wasn't traumatic. If you thought you broke a toy, would you be traumatized?

David (Brenda) Reimer - Not an experiment, a terrible accident. Proves that gender identity cannot be changed by socialization.

Bobo experiment: it wasn't a clown, it was an inflatable clown DOLL with a round base, designed to be punched down and pop back up like a Weeble.

I've never heard #1 in the UK. Surely that would have made the news before now.

Number 2 doesn't seem very disturbing. Those clowns had it coming.

#7 was a legitimate experiment. It was an optical illusion of an edge. To learn when a baby develops the sense of caution about their environment. If I recall a 6 month old crawled right over the "edge" {safely}. By 9 months they could detect the danger and wouldn't crawl off.

I'm sure I have my ages off, but I remember reading this ins phych 101.

I actually feel quite sick at a few of those. Humans can be nasty buggers- worse than cats.
