@ McDuff: You're absolutely right. I am entirely unable to comprehend that my opinions are of no matter to the people in this story. I'm really glad you pointed that out, and I appreciate it. Have a nice day!

@Squrlz4sale You made an incorrect assertion about my comment I've corrected you on that.
Your continued inability to comprehend that your opinion is of no matter to the people concerned in this story is baffling as is your claim that I've been rude at any point maybe you just feel silly for not understanding my initial point?

@ McDuff73: In point of fact, you never corrected me. As tactfully as I could, I pointed out that your statement "It's for them to decide how and what actions they take and no one else" was stupid because it's tantamount to saying that no one should express an opinion. But rather than graciously concede you overstated the point, you've gotten your ego wrapped up in all this and have become progressively more and more rude.

Perhaps that will help you see the light, but I rather doubt it.

@Squrlz4sale for future reference your free to carry any opinion you want about anything but it wont affect any change on an action thats already happened so dont expect it to.
Also if your unclear on something I post in future just ask I'm happy to correct you again.

This inhuman mother's abuse of her children was the driving factor in new laws that were passed in Nevada at the time allowing children to be removed from their parents' care [or lack thereof].

I'd say the Obit is well deserved.

I periodically google-stalk a former teacher so that I will known when he's dead and I can travel 7,000 miles to literally take a dump on his headstone.

@ Kitteh and others: From the two additional stories I've read on this now, I think it's safe to say that the mother was unusually abusive. And her children are certainly free to do whatever they please. Still, I'm not convinced that vindictive obituaries make the world a better place.

@spreekiller & @kitteh9: As bad as her abuse was? There have been hundreds of cases that were FAR worse.

I married one. I almost qualify myself (but it wasn't THIS bad!). I could cite 100 cases which make this look like Disneyland...

Meanwhile? If things were changed because of this to protect children? Then there is still hope for the future.

If it had been up to me, I would have wrote my former step-father's obit in much the same way. He deserved to die alone and miserable.

@ Spreekiller: Interesting; thanks. I certainly have more sympathy for the children after reading that.

@ McDuff73: Cool. We're in agreement then. (For future reference, the statement "It's for them to decide how and what actions they take and no one else" sounds a bit like "You have no place criticizing them.")

Incidentally, I do agree with your earlier point that a child abuser is likely to hide that abuse from the public; ergo, a person's being well-loved in their community doesn't necessarily equate to him or her being a good parent.

@ McDuff73: No worries; my squirrel underpants are dapper and untwisted. It just seemed to me (correct me if I'm wrong) that your point in your first comment was that since I'm not a member of this family, I have no right to comment on the obituary.

If that was your point (again: help me out here), I'm disagreeing with it on the grounds that publishing an obituary is a very public act. No one has the right to walk onto the public stage, proclaim "May I have your attention, please!", and then be exempt from criticism, be it favorable or unfavorable.

I didnt say she was a monster as you rightly pointed out it was the writer of the obit.

I didnt at any point say you couldnt have an opinion on the obituary so I dunno why your getting yer knickers in a twist about what I said.

@ McDuff73: ... if they have suffered at the hands of such a monster it's for them to decide how and what actions they take and no one else.

(1) How do you know the mother was "a monster"? Because the author of the obituary said so. Hardly seems fair: Why don't we let the mother give *her* side to the story? Oh yeah, she can't--because she's dead.

(2) Certainly the children can choose to write their mother's obituary in whatever tasteless, vindictive manner they please. But conducting this business in public--in a newspaper--makes it subject to the judgments of the public at large, including mine. That's how these things work. Or are you suggesting that I should not be allowed to express an opinion?

Livia Soprano?

Actually, that gives me an idea. We'd all like to write our own obituary, right?

RUTHLESS CRIMELORD WITH DOUBLE
LIFE EVADES JUSTICE TO THE END.

Much loved father, teacher, friend and community benefactor LordJim passed away mourned by many. However, few knew of his secret double-life as one of the most feared crimelords in Western Europe. A combination of psychopathic charm, utter ruthlesness and a finely-honed intelligence allowed him to fool all who knew him for decades. His best friend of 50 years said, 'I just thought he was a really sweet guy who put others before himself. I suppose I should have suspected something when he became a LibDem councillor but he was just so plausible.'

Police say it may take years to uncover the depths of his depravity.

Greatly missed. No flowers by request.

Abusers dont tend to let the community they live in know that they are abusers, so she may well have been liked in her community but the community may well have been utterly oblivious to her behaviour towards her children, and if they have suffered at the hands of such a monster its for them to decide how and what actions they take and no one else
