Hookers are cheaper on cold, rainy nights.

"Best" implies lowest price. It doesn't take into account the costs of transportation and storage and fitness. Are you really going to buy a wedding dress in November to use in May?

I've always found the best time to buy a lawnmower is right after your neighbor stops letting your borrow his.

"Would be helpful if they gave reasons for when to buy"

It's probably safe to assume that these are the times a buyer can get the listed items at their lowest price.

For example, cars are listed in Sept, which is around the time all the new models for the next year are coming out and dealers are trying to make room.

Lawnmowers, also listed in Sept, are there because Fall/Winter is right around the corner. The demand for a new mower is low so naturally the price goes down.

Almost all retail is on a quarterly season cycle some things just aren't available off season. Other things are on sale so they can make room for new stuff. And others are on sale because they're just in off season such as wedding supplies which probably wouldn't be moved in any other way.

As for classic and custom cars - buy in the winter

I sold cars for years, September is not any better than any other month. The only time that is better is if the manufacturer is offering a rebate. Otherwise the dealerships give the same deals all year long.
