Foolish advice even from a spiritual standpoint, does not medicine, vaacines, other treatments also come from God (for those who choose to believe)? But this seems to not be about that as much as yet another chance to bash Christians.

DromEd: Exactly, "Good News", rarely makes headlines outside of small hometown newspapers.

You're not going to hear about how many people are helped daily by church food banks, The Salvation Army, Religious based hospitals and others. Besides, Christians don't do good deeds to be recognized for them here on earth.

The majority of stories regarding religion that have been making headlines are just like this.

Come on w/d...you're a smart fellow. I mean that. Why do you think that is?

I mean really. "Christian minister helps poor family build house"...do you think that story will merit a few inches of ink in the local rag?

@CrakrJak - There's a good reason for all the anti-religion rants. The majority of stories regarding religion that have been making headlines are just like this. All we hear from the conservative right in this country when it comes to the hot topic issues of gays & abortion come from their religious beliefs. We have conservative politicians who ignore the fact that their religious beliefs mean nothing when it comes to laws. (see the First Amendment) These very same politicians rant about how awful Sharia Law is in Muslim countries yet lobby for their own brand of Sharia Law using the bible instead of the quran. If they kept their religion to themselves instead of using it as an excuse to be bigots we'd be in much better shape as a country.

whodat: I can't recall Judaism, hinduism, buddhism or many others ever criticized here. Whereas Christian bashing is almost a daily occurrence here.

It's far too frequent and the result is atheist trolling that turns people off and makes IAB less about curing boredom and more about anti-religious rants.

"It's open season on Christianity year round. Mainly because you know we won't be rioting, protesting, burning down embassies and raising hell about it."

Where the f*ck have you been? It's "open season" on EVERY religion here on IAB, search through previous posts about Islam and you'll see. Atheists don't single out one religion to criticize, we make fun of all of them. Christianity is more common here in our neck of the woods so it's brought up more often than Islam or Judaism.

SmagBoy: "The Muslims in *this* country don't blow poo up or pour acid on their women."

YES, THEY DO!

Wow you must have a short and selective memory.

Ever heard of the Tsarnaev brothers? You know the muslims that blew up the Boston Marathon?

And acid attacks are occurring here in America more frequently. Link
But they rarely get reported on beyond the local news.

Also, Christians around the world are being bullied and attacked from all sides, from liberal atheists to radical muslims to fundamentalist hindus to chinese communists and many others. You don't see it, because you wish not to and because the media doesn't care to report on it most of the time.

CrakrJak, do you honestly think Christians are being bullied?! The majority religion in the country, by a long shot?! The religion that is used to try to pass laws on a daily basis here? Can you really be that much of a victim?

As for not picking on bullies, etc., I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm interested in MY country. I call all bullies here, and I don't stop at Christians. I call out gun nuts when they shoot someone without super-good cause. You may remember that whole George Zimmerman trial? I call out government agencies when they go too far. I call out politicians when they enact clearly bigoted, discriminatory, almost troll-level laws (or attempt to). The Muslims in *this* country don't blow poo up or pour acid on their women. But you better bet your ass that I don't have any patience for that. And when it happens *here* where I have a vote and voice, you bet I'll speak and vote against it. Christians=victims? My ass.

patchouly: Get offended easy much?

I was just answering Gerry's comment not trying to offend you. But then again you take offense to most anything pro-Christian.

Btw, I'm not into discarding medicine in favor of some "holy water" or "faith healing".

Also, there are a lot of British people that believe in homeopathy, holistic health and naturopathy. I don't see any criticism of their application and it's just as dangerous.

But I know how it is, especially here at IAB. It's open season on Christianity year round. Mainly because you know we won't be rioting, protesting, burning down embassies and raising hell about it.

You look soooo brave when you keep bullying the meek people that turn the other cheek, because you're too chicken sh|t to stand up to the real assh*les that burn women's faces with acid and stone them when they are raped.

Zealots give all religions a bad name and it's easy for the non-believer to point and snicker.

A brief story if you will....

A man is stranded on a deserted island. Months go by until a ship sails near. "Do you need assistance?" shouts the ship captain. "No, thank you." "God will save me." says the man.

Many moons pass and the same thing happens. Years pass by and every now and again another ship sails past yet the man still refuses help. Many more years pass and the man eventually dies.

He reaches the pearly gates and asks, "God why did you not help me?" God says, "I sent over a dozen ships didn't I!"

I assume this thread isn't going to be one where Christians claim that their religion doesn't hurt anyone.

I saw patchouly do it! I will write it down here and attest to it as a witness. Consider my testimony as further proof. It went like this:

(1)There and seen before me was the good patchouly. Verily He walked strong toward a street corner upon where He encountered a man, recently dead, his life taken from him due to a high cholesterol meal at KFC. (2) But patchouly was not afraid. (3) He spoketh into His handheld communication device and implored of the local authorities to let the man live, to grant their efforts to restore the man to health! (4) He, patchouly, then verily laid His hands upon the man's chest and pumped three times and then breathed life into the man's mouth. (5) He repeated this feat, even at great Personal risk from distracted passing motorists, until, at last, the man was spirited away to safety and a full check-up, paid for by socialists and ill-gotten taxing of the rich. (6) Praise be to patchouly.

"Jesus rises from his tomb 3 days later and seen by over 500 people. 1 Corinthians 15"
---------
Yeah...and there's no way someone just wrote that down. It MUST have really happened because the guy that wrote it put down the number 500 witnesses. That instantly makes it true!

Did I tell you that 500 witnesses saw me bring a dead guy back to life! It's true! You should all worship me! If you don't believe it, you can read it in the previous sentences. That makes it true!

honkeylips, Byfield, did you know that some babies are born with AIDS? That it used to be gotten not only from blood transfusions, but via contaminated medical supplies of many sorts? Women are raped and contract it. Sometimes their children are born with it. Are you so ignorant (and, what, perhaps bigoted and full of hate?) that you believe everyone with AIDS deserves death? That *any* one with it does? That's a terrible, terrible position to take and I surely hope none of you ever contract an incurable disease.

@lauriloo I think we do have the right. It is the biological imperative to survive and breed. If you were an animal you wouldn't be attractive to a mate and you wouldn't breed so why shouldn't we breed out disease?

"HIV is a scary kind of disease and we need to get on with controlling it because the cure is still quite a few years away."

Well, how self-serving of you. Maybe we should let all people who contract a communicable disease just die so the rest of us can breathe easy. People live many years with HIV now so I don't think any of us have the right to write anyone off.

I think we should let them. We wont persecute their religion and all of a sudden the number of HIV sufferers will drop a bit. Fine by me. HIV is a scary kind of disease and we need to get on with controlling it because the cure is still quite a few years away.
