What are they whining about? I thought these folks LOVED redistribution? The low income are complaining about making way for the homeless? Aren't these the same folks who whine that those of us with money SHOULD be making way for them? Funny how that works... Bottom line is THIS is the result of allowing people to make careers out of being moochers. Welfare is supposed to be TEMPORARY, not a life-time pursuit. I was reading a report recently that stated they started tracking multiple cities food stamp usage. They ended the study in 2011 (After 18 years) and found close to 90% of the same people were still on food stamps and other welfare programs... See? A career. Make it easy to abuse the system and the people will use it their entire lives instead of bettering themselves and contributing.

I don't feel very rich. Who is calling us the richest country in the world? Our GDP says so, but we definitely are not the richest on most other quality of life indexes.

On a side note: while many people recognize the growing gap between the rich and poor, many fail to recognize that income mobility is continuing to increase.

Essentially, yeah the poor are poorer and the rich are richer, but the poor are becoming the rich more and more as they age, while young adults become the new poor.

Sorry, I just wanted to feel like a know-it-all.

Being poor is NOT a choice.
It's because there are no other options.

How can we call ourselves the "Richest" country in the world if we cannot provide for the basic human needs of every citizen?

34 million people in this nation are malnourished.
If another country was causing this we would be at war with them.

lauriloo: Please don't preach "Basic rights" when Obama and his pet Holder have no qualms about violating all of them. This president has an "enemies list" and has no reservations about using drones to kill US citizens.

Also, if Obamacare was soooooo great, why is he illegally forestalling most of it's implementation until after the 2014 election?

"IF we had a GOP that was focused on creating real jobs instead of constantly interfering with non-white male people's basic rights and obsessed with stopping Obamacare, we wouldn't have such a homeless problem."

There. Fixed it for you.

I want to be a landlord now. I get to have 83 apartments with over 200 violations but not have to do anything about them and get 3K a month for each apartment that I would have only gotten 700 for. Sweet ass deal. Kick 'em all out and make more homeless!

A large amount of the homeless population suffers from mental illness. Reopen the mental hospitals that were closed in the 80's they are a much better investment in the long run.

McGovern: IF we had a president that was focused on creating real jobs, instead of giving billions to failing "Green" companies and bankers, we wouldn't have such a homeless problem.

Why should I have to support people who refuse to support themselves? Which is a large majority of section 8ers.

We had section 8 housing on my street. They turned out to be heroin dealers and constantly had fights with knives and guns in the front lawn. They were there for over 3 years and in that time our housing prices fell $20,000 because of them. When they abandon the place, there was a roosterroach infestation, they stole the carpeting, there was huge amount of water damage, and of coarse they broke out the windows for good measure. It sat there abandon and rife with infestation until a city cop bought it for full market value. He's still repairing it, but he turned out to be a wonderful neighbor. If people want to have subsidised let them stay in their neighborhood, use partitions and let the community vote on it, don't just arbitrarily pick and choose where to sprinkle these people.

By court order the city MUST provide housing?
You have the right to pursue happiness, but you have to face the responsibility of failure. Nanny State can't do everything for you.
