Why aren't they, in turn, shutting down the secret e-mail accounts of Obama and his staff? Congress has subpoenaed these e-mails and they still have not been produced.

It's not that easy, OldOllie... OpenPGP has been partnering and giving out master keys to the encryption algorithms for years. OpenPGP will keep your competitors, ex-wife and other unmentionables from intercepting your e-mail, but it doesn't stop US governmental agencies.
