There was once a time when less was truly more - but we've passed the point of reasonably being able to revert to that. Progress?

Nature has been around a lot longer than economics. If women don't enjoy raising their children, they should be sterilized. But having a family is a blessing for most people, and the ability to provide for that family is what makes it a blessing rather than a struggle. When 1 income was sufficient to support a household (as opposed to a tenement), I guarantee you the benefits of financial security far outweighed the cost of career opportunity for most women in America. They should be entitled to the same opportunity as men, if sufficiently qualified, but damn for anyone to propose that women be 'encouraged' into different industries than that which they're inherently inclined, as if to suggest that they can't think for themselves, 1) no amount of education is going to rectify that and 2) who's being sexist?

Women have a choice...and they complain after making the choice. You can be stay-at-home mommy or you can work on a career. You can't do both at once. The women who do have idiot/horrid children. {99% anyway, there's always one exception.} Life is full of tough choices. Grow a pair of ovaries and make one, then live with it without whining.

A man could be stay-at-home, but most couples don't go for that solution. I'm looking forward to it...with my first grand baby. I'll take day shift like a mon-fri job, give the baby back when they get home. Weekends off :) No day care will be as attentive & nurturing as good old GrandPa!

@ Draculya - Yes. Many companies market to the gay community because we have a larger disposable income. Most don't have little bastards eating up all our ready cash.

Same over here. Dinkies (dual income, no kids). Companies love them and, as you say, there's a higher concentration of them amongst homosexuals than amongst heterosexuals. For companies, it's like mining a richer seam of ore.

It used to be called "the pink pound" over here when I was younger. I've no idea if it still is or if that phrase is considered offensive nowadays.

And the solution to that, LandoGriffin, is the same as the solution to many problems - genuine sexual equality. And I mean actual sexual equality, not the feminist corruption of it. With genuine sexual equality, the average time off work for mothers would be little more than the average time off work for fathers and all in one lump (i.e. part of pregnancy and childbirth). It wouldn't carry on over years for childcare, as you rightly point out it does now.

Here's the thing: women who have children must put their career on hold. Men who have children do not. So, the reason women are paid less than men is literally because of biological differences that limits the ability of MANY (but not ALL) women to work full-time. Don't believe me? Look at the numbers for childless women, their average experience and pay are much more similar to that of men with equal education and experience. The differences come from women who have had children which requires them not to work for a while, which limits their opportunities, compared to men, regardless of if the men have children or don't. After all, how often does DAD have to take off work because the kids are sick from school. Sometimes, yes. But that is less than half of all dads. Now, how many MOMS miss work when the kids are sick from school. The majority. Not ALL women are moms. But many are, and they are at a disadvantage.

If you really think women are underpaid, you should start a business and hire all of those underpaid women. If you're right, you should be able to kick you competition's asses in the marketplace. Otherwise, STFU.

Gerry, I bet most gay couples, with two good earners and no kids have a mighty spending power.

Here's the problem with the information in that video: It's True.

No one wants to use facts. If anyone in politics or the media were to discredit the "Downtrodden Woman" myth then they will immediately be attacked and accused of "Waging a War on Women". They're anti-female chauvinists who oppress women.

Kind of like racial profiling. It doesn't matter that it works or is accurate, it's all about media spin to promote our cause!
