Squrlz - It appears it is you who was misinformed... Your video claims that those who say Alarmists claiming global cooling was pushed in the 70's were what? Oh yea, that the claim was a "crock" - Then goes on to provide absolutely no evidence for such rhetoric... Yet I took you up on your challenge (10 minute challenge) and was able to locate more than 100 articles, magazine covers, and news segments warning of the coming "ICE AGE" in the 70's... I only posted about 1/3 of what I found due to each post far exceeding 1000 characters. But you get the idea. I can also point you to TIMES Magazine articles and covers from the early 1930's discussing predictions that within a decade temperatures would be so high, that crop failure was almost certain, and global anarchy along with societal break-down... In other words, the Alarmists have been at this game for a long time. (Yep, even in the 1930's they were showing their little charts too!)

Actually Squrlz - You continue proving me correct, and you as the alarmist! Your straw man argument is laughable at best, and sad at the least. See, I made my point quite clear, and that point was that CLIMATE CHANGE is NATURAL - And that in the 70's there was plenty of media warning of a coming Ice Age. You claimed this was not the case, yet I posted dozens of articles, magazines, and newspapers that claimed this very thing... Now you have nothing to say other than insult the list - Yet the list is quite legit - So your lack of a coherent reply shall be taken as a concession.

Heck, even this very thread you're posting in is a sensationalist article scoffed at by the very scientists stationed near the North Pole! lol Yet you have nothing to say about this either? Typical...

Just 30 seconds on any credible blog shows that this is a deliberately misleading claim: "FALSE: Holy moly, the icy North Pole is now a lake, declares The Huffington Post and some other news outlets, fueled by scientific photos like these from the North Pole Environmental Observatory that are drawing buzz. You may be left with the impression that Santa is now snorkeling in what seems to be open waters that stretch as far as the eye can see.

What the photos really show

Despite headlines to the contrary, "you don't want to call them lakes. They're melt ponds," says researcher Mike Steele, principal investigator for the Polar Science Center at the University of Washington, by email.

What you see in the photos (and webcam No. 2 here) is one of the shallow ponds that form every summer and freeze later. It looks eerie because a wide-angle, fish-eye lens makes that particular pond look bigger than it is."

McGovern - Because it's more B.S. from the left... Even the scientists stationed there came out right away to destroy this ridiculous claim...

How weak must your argument be if you have to bust out wide angle fish lenses and claim a melt pond that forms every single year, and re-freezes in the winter is proof of "global warming?" Pathetic...

Funny that even if every person on the planet stopped driving permanently, and every manufacturing plant in the world shut down - We STILL would have less than a fraction of 1% impact on "global warming" - Perhaps because "global warming" (Climate change) is natural, not man-made... Or does someone here who believes man-kind is causing global warming want to explain to me how other planets in the solar system also experiencing "warming" is being caused by us? lol - Ridiculous. Funny, in the 70's and 80's the same yahoo's screaming "Warming" were warning we were doomed and on track for another ice age in 20 years due to pollution! Nice 180 ya'll did there! ;)

Hey Bliznik - How about you do some research before flapping your jaws!

"Human CO2 is a tiny % of CO2 emissions
“The oceans contain 37,400 billion tons (GT) of suspended carbon, land biomass has 2000-3000 GT. The atpmosphere contains 720 billion tons of CO2 and humans contribute only 6 GT additional load on this balance. The oceans, land and atpmosphere exchange CO2 continuously so the additional load by humans is incredibly small." (Ahem - A fraction of a percent)

McGrendel - I agree with you 100% that so far, every prediction they've made in the last 100 years has failed. You can go back as far as 1895 when claims were being made that rising temps would (Insert alarmist claim here) - And not one of them has come to pass... With a track record like that, no wonder the libs championed the cause. Fits with their MO. Let's all ignore the Al Gore fiasco and keep drinking the koolaid... MMMMMM Tasty.... lol

"Every title you've copied and pasted off the denier websites is from the popular press (or TV shows). Or do you somehow not understand what the word "Alarmist" means?

OOPSIE DAISY
It sems the picture is over 300 MILES away from the "North Pole" and Huff-Post has offered a correction...

Also: There were REAL "North Pole Lakes" on both 1987 and 1959... so guess what?

NOT AGW! AGAIN!

Squrlz

Thanks for that chart of evidence that climate change is natural and unrelated to the CO2 released into the atmosphere since 1940, after the major rise in your chart. Or are you also claiming that mankind is destroying causality?

As expected, this is another lie of the climate catastrophists. It turns out that this photo was taken around 85 degrees North, where pools such as this are common in summer, and have been throughout our experience of the Arctic.

The Arctic is in fact experiencing one of the coldest summers on record.

Global warming is is only 100% legit in that the earth has been warming and cooling since day one. What I hate is when political policy is set on science that may or may not be correct and then all of suffer economically based on alarmist science. I don't care anymore if GW is real or not, I just can't stand the constant condescending whining and complaining about it! It's the boy who cried wolf on steroids and I just tune it out.

Global warming is 100% a thing. But its effects are not inconsistent with previous global warming caused by nature. We've just sped it up a bit. And soon we'll get to the part where all the methane and CO2 that was absorbed in the last ice age starts to rapidly unabsorb itself. THEN we have a problem. Hopefully, we wont get to the mass wildfire part and we'll get the UK cooling from a disabled jet stream (much better). That would suit me alright.

@ 5Cats: If you look at the lower left of the chart I posted, you'll see two red crosses indicating where Ollie's chart ends. The two charts use different datasets. His, Greenland ice cores that end in 1855; mine, Greenland surface temp records.

As I stated when I first responded to Ollie's chart, however, attempting to prove or disprove AGW with temp records from a single location (Greenland, in this case) is a fatally flawed approach. It's *global* warming after all--and in terms of global temperatures, the record is unequivocal: the Earth is warming to higher temps, and at a faster rate, than man has ever witnessed.

@ Cuthere: I never said, as you claim, that the popular media was not talking about a coming ice age in the '70s. They were; I remember it myself. I said that climatologists weren't predicting one. They weren't; while a minority of them did state they thought a cooling period was possible due to air pollution, the large majority still ascribed to AGW science, the basics of which had been worked out in the 1950s.

Are there climate alarmists in the media? Absolutely. If you'll check my first comment in this thread, you'll see that I agree that this "North Pole Lake" story is alarmist. Do alarmist stories in the media somehow invalidate the work of thousands of climatologists, going back nearly a century, which strongly indicate that man's CO2 emissions are warming the planet? No.

On a local note. This has been one of the coolest summers I've ever experienced this year. 10-15 degrees below normal. That and it rained so much this spring that farmers had a long wait for their fields to dry so they could plant seeds.

This weather has pushed back the harvest time and if we get an early frost, it would be disastrous. couple that with the inflated price of fuel due to EPA regulations and the still delayed Keystone pipeline and it could be a recipe for much higher food prices.

@Squrlz4: YOUR chart: Show 1885 as "-28.5"
@OldOllie's "Chart" shows 1885 as "-31.5"
You've completely overlooked that there's 3 degrees difference in your "starting points".
EVEN if you add 1.5 degrees (the difference in your chart) to @OO's chart? It's still WELL below other "warm periods" and FAR FROM the "hottest in all of history"...

Facts, plain and simple. Even the chart YOU PROVIDE says so!

LOOK at all those hot temperatures in the 1930's and 1940's! Amazing! Hot!

Why is this post here?

@BeardofZeus: Because IAB has several "AGW True Believers" and, like it or not, they get equal say in posting stuff.
Hey! Fair is fair! They post BS, we post the facts... fairness!

Reality: We humans can stop "Global Warming" just like we could stop "Continental Drift"

In other words: NOT!

(Totally stole that from the comments over there~!)

FACT: If ALL of Canada stopped ALL "AGW Gasses"? it would NOT make a difference over 100 YEARS! So "reducing by 0.05%"??? = piss in the ocean.

OMG! You PEED into the OCEAN! That will change the SALT CONTENT and endanger ALL LIFE ON EARTH...
O'Really?

Mykunter: "You ARE going to die. We are ALL going to die. Mankind WILL cease to exist. It is inevitable. Accept it. Now go live your life."

Yes, I have no problem with the notion of my demise...I am old enough and have spent too many years as a Marine and then a metropolitan firefighter to be concerned with that. I live my life every day.

What is "scary" is the idea that we have been so ignorant as a species that our Mother Earth might be taking her steps to finally get rid of us. This is what I meant. Not something so simplistic as being afraid to die. Sorry for the miscommunication.
