P.S. - turdburglar - I would have PM'd this fyi if this website made that function possible, but you're not the only one who's inadvertently used the term "error" in error within this context; I was guilty myself for a time. The correct term you were looking for in this application would be "err," which means basically the same thing but is considered more journalistically proper for some reason. No detraction from your argument as a whole.

@Dragonace

"Where in my post did I ever mention I didn't know the basic details of the situation?"

Right here:

"I didn't follow the trial at all"

A lot of information was not publicly known until the trial (such a the balistics indicating Martin was on top).

You formed your opinion before you had access to the facts. That is called prejudice. It is the very definition of the word prejudice. Don't be in denial about it: do something about it.

"So please don't label me as prejudice simply because I wasn't aware I had incorrect information."

Making a judgement on information you weren't aware is bad is excusable.

Making a judgement without having access to even the pertinent information ISN'T. And you did not have that before the trial. And then when you had the opportunity to get it, during the trial...you didn't.

I got an explanation for the verdict. HE REALLY WAS INNOCENT! Imagine that! It actually happened like he said. None of you were there and none of you were at the trial so STFU!

I heard a term that applies to most Cable "News" especially in this case. Journalistic Malpractice, which can occur on both sides of most issues... The US media is full of it. Which is why I go to print news and European sources to get news that is more in line with what Journalism should be - The facts, little if no opinion.
I personally like Jib Jab's view of What we call the news.

Honestly I think had GZ simply walked up to TM and asked what his business was...

@Dragonace: Didn't you just say GZ should have "stayed in his car"? Now he's supposed to approach TM? Which one is "correct" eh?

@McGovern: So true!
Black on Black crime = ignored
Black on White crime = ignored
White on Black crime = SENSATIONAL!
White on White crime = depends on the situation

@LordJim

Join the black panthers and preach to kill babies mabey? Or follow the word of Sharpton? Look the story up for yourself or would that burst your little bubble?

There is not a white equivalent of Al Sharpton because if there was
he would be declared racist, so there is no one rushing to Brunswick GA
to demand justice for me. There is no White Panther party to put a
bounty on the lives of those who murdered me. I have no voice, I have no
representation and unlike those who shot me in the face while I sat
innocently in my stroller - I no longer have my life.

So while you are seeking justice for Treyvon, please remember to seek
justice for me too. Tell your friends about me, tell you families, get
tee shirts with my face on them and make the world pay attention, just
like you did for Treyvon"

73% non-white
neighborhood, but my murder was not ruled a Hate Crime. Nor did
President Obama take so much as a single moment to acknowledge my
murder.

I am one of the youngest murder victims in our great Nation's
history, but the media doesn't care to cover the story of my tragic
demise, President Obama has no children who could possibly look like me -
so he doesn't care and the media doesn't care because my story is not
interesting enough to bring them ratings so they can sell commercial
time slots.

You won't recognize me. My name
was Antonio West and I was the 13-month old child who was shot at point
blank range by two teens who were attempting to rob my mother, who was
also shot. A Grand Jury of my mommy's peers from Brunswick GA determined
the teens who murdered me will not face the death penalty...too bad I
was given a death sentence for being innocent and defenseless.

My family made the mistake of being white in a

In the end a young man lost his life for basically nothing and that is hard to take, especially for those who are parents. As I have seen expressed over and over again these past few days, parents are terrified for their children’s future because they could be profiled and killed just like TM simply for looking or dressing a certain way and it seems like there is nothing that can be done to stop it.

@Musuko42 - Where in my post did I ever mention I didn't know the basic details of the situation? I followed the story for the first few months after it happened, so I based my opinion on the facts I had at that time. But as you can see by my post below, I quickly changed my stance once I was given new information. So please don't label me as prejudice simply because I wasn't aware I had incorrect information. Like I said earlier, the new media has been spreading misinformation constantly since the incident occurred trying to sway public opinion on the matter

@HumanAction -Thanks for that link, I listened to the call and then watched a video that laid out the scene as it unfolded so as to give perspective on what transpired. Given GZ's account of the evening and the lack of direct witnesses during the 3-4 minutes between the end of GZ's call with 911 and the gunshot, its hard to say what exactly lead to the shooting. Because GZ is the only one who knows what happened, there is no way to prove without a reasonable doubt of his guilt, hence the acquittal.

But I still understand peoples frustration that GZ profiled TM based solely on his appearance and ended up killing him (for reasons we’ll never know). Honestly I think had GZ simply walked up to TM and asked what his business was in the neighborhood it may have gone down differently. Since GZ was just watching TM from a distance, I would assume TM felt threatened and decided to fight back. But in the end no one knows the facts so no one can say it was GZ or TM wh

"I didn't follow the trial at all"

Yet you still felt justified in forming the below opinion:

"Had GZ not given chase or had he tried to actually communicate with TM rather than stalking him like a weirdo, then things could have played out differently."

What's a good word for forming an opinion before you know the facts? Hmmm...

There should be a law for a 'whole lotta stupid going on by both parties involved". Sadly this one ended with tragic results. The real story here is that this is totally being used by the race crowd. I don't believe for one second Obama and Holder want justice for anyone, they want people getting all riled up! They want to use your anger. That's how they get your vote. That's how they get your support and stay in power. Is any of this "bringing the country together"? Not at all. No, you are being used, people.

There is only one plausible explanation for the verdict - he's not guilty.

The man did NOT commit murder - even if he WAS stalking the kid, or chasing him. The way he was shot, was during a scuffle-type scenario.

Zimmerman is a wannabe cop and the kid was a wannabe punk. Maybe if the kid stopped and talked to him instead of calling him a crazy cracker and beating the poo out of him, it wouldn't have happened.

If I saw a kid in my neighborhood in a hoodie at night that I normally don't see around here, I'm profiling him for damned sure! Not as black, but as someone who doesn't belong.

People calling out racism are the the racists.

Hate the law, not the man.

@Dragonace

You should listen to the call between Zimmerman and the dispatcher; it might change your opinion.

2:13 - Zimmerman leaves his truck;
2:22 - Breathing heavily (obviously running), Zimmerman is asked if he is following; he says "Yeah";
2:26 - Zimmerman told that "we don't need you to do that"; he replies "OK";
2:39 - Heavy breathing stops; Zimmerman says "He ran" clearly indicating that he is no longer following; conversation with dispatcher is now regular.

Zimmerman complied within, at most, 13 seconds of being asked not to follow. The conversation then hints that Zimmerman has abandoned the "chase" to rendezvous with police officers.

In my opinion, given this, the most probable scenario is that Martin came back to Zimmerman - as opposed to the "run

@monsterzero, I was unaware of that information, I didn't follow the trial at all and only got tidbits of info here and there. But basically I'd say that the media is to blame for the misinformation and the outrage that resulted from it. Different news outlets portrayed the story in different ways and they slated it to support their own agenda, the days of unbiased news reporting are long gone. Today the news media outlets are nothing but propaganda machines used by the owners to push their personal views on the nation. Sad really!

Dragonace:
The story that the jury accepted as truth because GZ was on the phone with the dispatcher wasn't the media made up story that he was "stalking" the kid, but he was going to the street sign to tell the cops what street he was on and was jumped by Martin on his way back to the car.
You may not believe it but apparently there was evidence to make a jury believe it.

Had GZ not given chase or had he tried to actually communicate with TM rather than stalking him like a weirdo, then things could have played out differently. So I think the issue here is that there is not really a law regarding provocation and instigation of a violent situation like this (to my knowledge). Because in many people’s eyes, GZ instigated this whole thing by profiling and pursuing TM in the first place and it was his initial actions that started the chain of events that lead up to the shooting.
