Maybe she really was dead. The criteria necessary for declaring somebody dead have changed over the years, partly due to the pressure to harvest organs. People can now be declared dead while there's still brain activity or when their hearts are still beating. Or even when they're still moving. Doctors are advised not to tell grieving relatives that their 'dead' relative has moved to avoid upsetting them. Doctors are discouraged from carrying out some tests for fear that they might show that the patient is still alive. All this is according to the New Scientist but I can't provide a link that doesn't need a subscription to the magazine in order to read it.

Chick: "Hi. Why am I here?"
Doc: "F*CK!!!"
Chick: "What's wrong?"
Doc: "I really needed that liver."
Chick: "Well... You can have it. I don't need it, anyway..."
Doc: "Great!! If the incision is along here-"
Nurse: "DOCTOR!!!"
Doc: "Oh, fine! Send her back..."

Times like this I wonder if I should remove my organ donor tag. Isn't the first 'he could have been saved' or 'he wasn't actually dead' report I've seen.

"Doctors ignored a nurse's observations indicating Burns was not dead and her condition was improving."

reminds me of Monty Python "Im not dead - Yes you are)

Im not dead - Im getting better

What do you call a medical student who scrapes by with a "D" average?
Answer: Doctor

I've never understood why Doctors are held in such high regard. Most are idiots.
I have two in my family and I wouldn't trust either of them to carve that Thanksgiving Turkey.

The "A" students go to the high end hospitals that only the truly wealthy can afford.
The "B" students go to medical research facilities and private practice.
The "C" and "D" students are what most of us see when we go to the doctors that our health insurance covers.

Doctors are taught by rote [which is why it is called a "Practice"] and rarely think outside of their training. They are nothing more than glorified mechanics.
In fact, my auto mechanic went to school longer to become a certified mechanic than either of my family members went to school to become doctors.

I think I need to give my family amended instructions about when it's ok to start letting the doctors turn off machines and cut me open once I'm dead.

When I was a kid my folks always wanted me to be a doctor, so when I was at college my mum got me some work experience with one of her friends who was a home office pathologist because that's the side of medicine I thought I'd most enjoy. Anyhoos, one day I was in the morgue and was walking past this old lady on one of the tables when her head turned towards me and she did a slight gasping noise.

I very nearly poo my pants, and I ran out of there like forest gump on amphetamines.

It turned out it was just a badly placed neck block and some natural gas movement going on and the little gasping thing happened quite a lot and it wasn't the start of the zombie apocalypse after all.
