"There's a reason we have trials."

Alas, those reasons don't apply. The police and the prosecutor determined that no crime had been committed and Zimmerman acted lawfully in self defense. Until a bunch of black social leaders brought the camera's and drama to the scene. This trial is politically motivated. The special prosecutor, Angela Core, who was appointed to "Examine the facts" said her first day "We will get him".

This is a show trial so politicians don't take a hit with black voters.

Zimmerman passed a lie decterctor test. The way this has been handled should be considered a mistrial there is no chance of a non biased jury.

Furthermore: I honestly doubt this trial will have ONE IOTA of "new evidence" that we (on IAB) haven't seen already.

What it hinges of is: what evidence is KEPT OUT of the trial...

So I believe I HAVE seen all the evidence in this case, but remain open to there being more.

I'd 'bet the farm' there isn't anything new that's important though. At least NOTHING that will 'prove' Zimmerman is guilty...

Amazing that anyone here thinks that can possibly know if he's guilty or not guilty.

@FoolsPrussia: Only 1 human alive "knows 100% for sure". OK? Everyone else, including the Judge and Jury? FORM AN OPINION.
That's what we'll ALL doing! But if it's a strong enough opinion? We state it as a fact, because that's how the English language rolls.

For example: I know the Moon is NOT made of cheese.
Not because I PERSONALLY have been there! But because the 'vast preponderance' of evidence and common sense points to it NOT being made of cheese.

Get it? It's not 100% certain, but 99.999~ (repeating) and that's close enough for me!

I am going to base the idea that George Zimmerman will get off, rightly or wrongly, on the composition of the jury. Just like OJ's jury was mostly black, this one is mostly white. Could be wrong though.

I think with the way the prosecutor is a freaking tool, and comes across as such, this may not take long.

For several reasons.

1) I don't think there are a lot of people here who really know Florida law well enough to make a judgement.

2) There's a reason we have trials.

3) What I see here is people judging based on their worldview. So on one side you have the gun rights people who are convinced not only that Zimmerman did the right thing, but that Trayvon Martin was a punk, gang member, or general piece of trash.

On the other side I see people who have the opposite worldview (the side I am generally on, but won't share in their accusations in this case), who are also convinced that Zimmerman maliciously shot Martin because he's a racist.

FoolsPrussia why not? Isn't possible to follow the case closely, be knowledgeable about it and then form an opinion?

Not me, I'm an ignorant git who forms lots of opinions over nothing. But I'm sure some of the people here know stuff.

@ Dead mind - I think he's clearly NOT guilty.
Anyone should be allowed to defend themselves is someone is hitting them.

SmagBoy,
"Quoting Martin's random FB posts is not"

I think they are. Also the photos of him with the pistol and others like that. It shows a person who glorifies the thuglife culture. It goes to the defense theory of self defense that someone who did glorify a violent culture might pick a fight.

All the jury will see are 5 year old photos of a darling little boy, not the young man who was shot. That's prejudicial.

Lol deadmind, your mentality seems to be the mentality of injustice. You're already ready to hang and convict him. The question is whether or not he rightly defended himself, or if he was out hunting Black people. Self-defense is something that you have a weak right to in most quarters in Europe.

@Andrew155: Quoting Zimmerman's comments to the 911 operator is germane to the events that happened minutes later. Quoting Martin's random FB posts is not. At all.

That said, I agree with most of the comments here regarding the circus that is this trial and all of the grandstanding (some on both sides) leading up to it.

Seems pretty simple. There was an altercation, Zimmerman shot Martin. Martin died. The question is, what does the law allow for regarding self defense? Does it allow the use of deadly force in this case or not? Did Zimmerman cause the altercation and does that matter or not? I realize we have to have a little bit of lead up info and a little bit of follow on info, but that's basically it. Did Zimmerman defend himself, or, due to extenuating circumstances, under the law, did he go too far? That's it. Seems that could be discussed and settled in a day. Or should be. Whatever the law says, that should be that.

Next witness for the prosecution is the 7-11 clerk who testified Trayvon bought a soft drink and candy like a sweet little boy. Again this is not a witness to the incident, it's an emotional appeal.

This sort of dragging it out is why no one wants to serve on a jury for 3 or 4 months.

As a white male living on the South side of Chicago, I am excited that the verdict will be read when it is 90º outside. That way, I can experience random violence against me and mine.

This judge is so biased.
Prosecution first witness was Travon's friend who talked about how they played video games all day like good little boys.

He wasn't a witness to the incident. He wasn't there. He wasn't on the phone with him. He had NOTHING to offer in the way of evidence, just painted a rosey picture of what a sweet little child Trayvon was.

Trayvon didn't deserve to die, he probably was an okay kid. But that's irrelevant, this sort of emotionalism is used to sway a jury when you don't have facts.

If you look at the composition of the jury, he'll probably get off. I believe it's 5 white women and one hispanic woman.

So: The ONLY thing the prosecution has is hysterics and emotional appeal? Oh, and the 'Race Card'.

Exactly as I (and others) predicted.

There's no way this should even have gone to trial. Chance of conviction = zero point zero.

The defense 'joke' video should have been longer: it sounds like he's making a valid point, but gets cut off before he can explain it.

I hate all the f*cking theatrics that go along with high profile trials like this. I only watched the first video of the prosecutor speaking and it sounds like a monologue from a horrible audition tape.

I saw the circus this morning.
Stupid joke in opening statements.
Judge is leaning against Zimmerman in her decisions.
I hope he gets off.

Great, TV cameras in the court room. Bunch of grandstanding lawyers making this even more of a circus than it already is.

Wow. This guy is screwed, big-time. Probably has a ready-made appeal for incompetent council, though.

It's funny that Zimmerman's past expletives are admissible, but all of Trayvon's are not.
