Also, why is nobody talking about Microsoft giving away two free premium (read:not Xbox Arcade) games a month until Xbox One is released? Two of the confirmed free games are Assassin's Creed 2, and Halo 3. That's a huge freaking deal!

This is direct from Gamespot, who is unbiased on the subject.

"The Xbox One mandates users connect to the Internet once every 24 hours to authenticate games. In addition, the console supports used games, but decisions about allowing or denying them will be left up to individual publishers."

THE CONSOLE SUPPORTS USED GAMES. THE CONSOLE SUPPORTS USED GAMES.

Rest assured, if Microsoft is giving the publishers freedom to restrict used games on their console, then they will be restricted on PS4 as well.

I imagine that PS4 versions of games will have the tried and true codes like the old PC games. We shall see.

@auburnjunky, niether of us discerned between digital and hard copies. So I'll assume that this was an oversight and not you using a red herring tactic.

Physical hard copies are the only thing I'm referring to, mainly because, believe it or not, I'm against piracy.

So, please stick to topic.

Hey Duckboy. I agree.

I also believe we should be able to download used music, and used movies.

They're both the game makers and console makers getting to greedy. Microsoft a bit more so this time I'm just hoping it bites one of them in the ass hard soon so they'll get a message. Day one DLC for a game should not be legal that selling an incomplete product. DLc in general is getting real disgusting.

And what about used books, @auburnjunky?
Should used book stores be shut down?
How about librarys?
Video rental places?
Goodwill and Salvation Army?

Why should video game publishers be paid for the exact same disc, not once, but twice?

auburnjunky: Not one cent of used game fees goes to the developers or publishers, and that's wrong on so many levels.

The publisher already got their money. The game had to be purchased new at one point already, or is that assumption incorrect? If the assumption is incorrect, how is it incorrect?

I propose that used car lots also be shut down! The manufactor makes no money off those transactions!...

I propose that antique shops be shut down! ...

I propose all yard sale profits be sent to manufactor of the goods sold! ...

To me, all used goods are the same.

Now I must say, Microsoft is dropping the ball. All these new details are hard to understand, and they aren't making it clear. I also don't think the Kinect should be included. Not that I care about it. Mine will be connected. It's that it has to be the reason it is $100 more than the PS4.

For the record, I will be getting both consoles. The only one I won't get this generation is the Wii U.

I won't be paying for PSN though. It's more expensive than XBL.

- You must connect to the internet at least once every 24 hours, if you don't, your games will not function. This includes single-player games.

Patently false. You must connect if you want to receive updates. Other than that, you can stay offline forever.

- You must leave your Kinect connected.

Patently false. You don't even have to hook it up. That's why it is not part of the box.

- The Kinect can read your heart rate, body temperature and even your facial expressions.

That's gonna be awesome for games that can use that functionality.

- You can lend a game ONCE, to a friend, only after you have known them for 30 days. However, if you do so, you will never be able to play that game again...unless you buy a new one. If the person you lend it to wants to sell it, they can't. It is theirs forever.

This will be up to the publisher, and this is a half truth. You can share a game for free to anyone on your friend list, period.

Also, the second hand market screws everyone.

GameStop is like Pirate Bay for games, only it has a store, and makes money.

Not one cent of used game fees goes to the developers or publishers, and that's wrong on so many levels.

Imagine how awesome games would be if 100% of the money spent went to the people who made them? Now, GameStop makes more money then EA, Activision, and Sega COMBINED.

"Only if both Microsoft and the publisher decide to allow you to do so."

Nope. Used fees are 100% publisher based. 100% the publisher's decision. Microsoft have already stated they will not receive $1 off of any used game fees.

XBox One:

- You must connect to the internet at least once every 24 hours, if you don't, your games will not function. This includes single-player games.

- You must leave your Kinect connected. If you don't, your games will not function. Kind of makes you wonder what kind of data Microsoft will be collecting from it when you're not even playing it.

- The Kinect can read your heart rate, body temperature and even your facial expressions. Again, makes you what kind of data Microsoft will be collecting from it when you're not even playing it.

- You can lend a game ONCE, to a friend, only after you have known them for 30 days. However, if you do so, you will never be able to play that game again...unless you buy a new one. If the person you lend it to wants to sell it, they can't. It is theirs forever.

- You can only sell games to "pre-approved" retailers. Gamestop only?

- Got a movie and more than one person in the room? Mig

You can do this on Xbox One also.

Only if both Microsoft and the publisher decide to allow you to do so. You can't buy a game for the Xbox One. You can only rent them. People may pretend that it's a purchase, but control of whether or not you're allowed to play it remains with MS and the publisher, which means that they own it and you're renting it off them.

They've already done the same on the PC and it's reduced sales. The second hand market (whether commercial trade-in or personal loan or swap) is an important part of the underpinning of the game market.

@Auburn
Xbox will charge a fee for used games.

Now the specs aren't too far off but I read today the xbox will be $100 more than PS4. I think microsoft is really dropping the ball on this one.
