Viking Guy

That is a lesson for much of the EU (outside Finland). Banning firearms disarms law-abiding people who are no threat. It does not disarm criminals.

I think the point here is rather that the law is a lot like a stop sign. It´s there to remind you of a rule, but it in no way can force you to comply to said rule.
Essentially, saying "You can't build X without the paperwork.", when was the last time a piece of paper got up off your desk and physically prevented you from doing something?

The irony is that this reporter broke federal laws, not in making the gun but in his cretinous decision to dispose of it. He had a perfectly good gun, he should have kept. Instead he left a legally-intact gun on the street to be collected as garbage.

The way he "destroyed" the lower receiver does not comply with federal regulations. This means that the part that is legally a gun was still a gun when he left it out. Idiot.

So the purpose of this video is? I'm confused especially considering that building your own firearm is completely legal already.

@Forplay2k

Making your own lower is perfectly legal federally.
But it is illegal in some states.
But in general it is legal, and there are big forums online dedicated to it.

Making your own lower receiver is not "Legal". If you want a rifle that has no paper trail just buy it second hand from a private individual. After posting this the ATF will be paying him a visit. And selling it to so poor guy that doesn't know it has no ser. # is illegal and just plane wrong.

"Why get something that mimics automatic fire when you can just file down the firing pin?"

That doesn't work.
There's a rumor that says you can remove one sear of an AK, and sharpen the firing pin to convert it to full auto, but it's just a rumor.
Doing it can/will cause the gun to fire without the bolt fully locked, which will cause the gun to explode violently.

I should know, I have converted several weapons, including an AK using real military grade parts, and I was an apprentice gunsmith for 2 years.

I'm really surprised that Mother Jones would let anyone who worked for them hold a gun or even fire one. oh, and by the way, thanks Mother Jones for giving me the a website so I can purchase me a gun kit.

Yeah...Fireworks, water and sunlight is the same as automatic guns.

Those devices that "mimic automatic fire" don't work.
They started coming on the market in the 90s, and became quite popular as they were pretty cheap, but as soon as people realized that they don't work they disappeared from the market, and I haven't seen one for sale in years.

One of the excuses for the travesty at Waco was that they Davidians had such devices on their AKs which the ATF called
"possibly illegal".

Making your own guns is legal in the US, but you have to obey all current fire arms laws, so you can't build things like machine guns and short barreled shotguns without the paperwork. And there are a bunch of strange laws about homemade firearms, for example, you aren't allowed to sell them or give them away, and when you die they have to be destroyed.

The only reason a gun has a serial number is because of commerce laws that the large commercial manufacturers must follow.

If you build one for yourself and have no intention of selling it, then you have broken no federal laws.
{State or local laws *may* apply]

yeah but if you're going to have an illegal fire arm might as well go all out and get parts for a full auto one.

Well I'm glad it was presented in a reasonable, completely unbiased manner.

Contrary to popular belief, there is no mysterious secret to the manufacture of firearms.

Some people will see this and become emotional about having an unregistered gun. Bought guns aren't registered either. I don't see any reason that this process of making it yourself would make anyone scared or put anybody in danger. (except the person shooting it, because it may be less reliable )

Making your own receiver is not nearly as easy as he makes it sound. It is legal to make an ak reciever or an ar lower, but it is illegal to sell or to transfer to anyone else. Why not just buy an ak or ar? It's not like the government has files of every gun and who owns them anyways.
