I'm going to expand on the trumpet:
The trumpet is basically a tube with pistons to redirect the airflow, making the tube longer. The longer the tube, the the lower the pitch. Hence why the 4.5 foot trumpet plays higher than the 18 foot tuba.
The tubes coming out of the valve casing are such that the second valve lowers the pitch by a half tone (minor second), the first lowers it by a whole tone (major second), and the the third a whole tone and a half (minor third). Any instruments with a fourth valve, have it lowered by two whole tones and a half (perfect fourth).
The first valve tube is double the size of the second's, and the third is the length of the first and the second combined, or three times the size of the second's. The fourth is the length of the the first's and the third's combined, or five times the length of the second's.

"People didn't know how a caliper works?"

I get the 2.4 number but is it .07 because that's the only line that lines up with another line? Kind of reminds me of a slide rule.

What is circle strafing trying to show? Is it saying that the person outside will always hit, and the person inside will always miss? What are the implications or practical applications of this?

Interesting showing the hypotrochoid before the wankel engine which is an epitrochoid.

Thanks, Poop. I knew it was a Geneva drive but you clearly know way more than I do from there!

The "How a second hand (in a clock) works" GIF is incorrect. In a mechanical clock, if it has a second hand, it is simply the escapement wheel. The minute and hour hands turn due to a gear train which originate from the escapement wheel, not the other way around as presented in the GIF, which is actually a Geneva drive.

Nice! The 1996 crossword was back when humans still made them, now it's ALL done by computers...

It freaked people out when the NYT did it
