In other words: "Woman tries very hard to put father in nursing home, father fights for right to die in home he built."

Did that cover it?

@dead-kittens don't know whether to be happy for your faith in humanity or sad at your gullibility.

In my little part of the world, "loved" ones are shuttled off to a retirement home because the family didn't want to upset their lifestyle. Sad but true. Seen it too many times.

@trippyhippy9, I don't see how it is "completely broken".

Sure it sucks, but the only reason why the vet really lost was due to the statute of limitations. Are you saying that the statute is broken? Are you saying that every crime you've ever committed should warrant legal action against you? And by that, I mean anytime youve ever drank underage, any pot you've ever smoked, that stop sign you ran, that speed limit you broke, etc. should you be accountable for those crimes, even twenty, thirty, sixty years later?

It sucks, sure. And the daughter got lucky due to his not paying attention.

Sounds like what my Aunt tried to do to my Grandfather. Karma took her slowly in the form of Cancer not too long after she lost the court battle...

ok, so heres what i think is really going on (this is just my hollywood writers imagination) it is all actually the husbands fault. the granddaughter said she wasnt on good terms with her mother and stepfather, so the husband isnt the original. i think this stepfather is a confidence man and had had his eye on this family for years. he slowly pulled at the threads of the previous marriage until it fell apart, then swooped in and married the newly divorcee. then he began to turn the wife against her own family. and when the power of attorney thing happened, he pounced. but because of a certain legal specification things went awry and he now finds himself in this f*cked up rodeo circus of family betrayal. how will it end? will the wife discover her new husband is scum? will the vet get to keep his house? probably not, real stories usually dont come with happy endings, but they do usually come with contentment.

I think there is WAY more to this story than just a greedy, bitch of a daughter to impatient for her father to die.

I had that thought too when I first read this, but it has been picked up by several 'reputable' news sources who do not seem to dispute what is being said. Also the case went to court and was decided in favor of the father. So this would mean that there must have been enough truth in this to allow it to be decided in his favor. The reason it was overturned in appeals was simply because of the statute of limitations apparently.

my grandfather has alzheimers disease. hes been in a retirement home for 2 years now. hes not happy hes there, im not happy hes there, but its the only place for him. i asked my dad to take me to see him, but my dad doesnt do well with emotions, so he went with out me. i would like to visit him, but ive been busy trying to juggle life and with out a ride its difficult to get there. i have no idea if potter needs to be in a retirement home, but the fact that his 30 year old granddaughter is fighting against her mother in order for him to keep his home says somethings not right about whats going on here.

Well to be fair if the daughter is declining to comment I cant call that an indication of first class douche baggery..maybe, just maybe the parcels were sold to fund the retirement home...for gawd sakes the guy is 91 ...although its possible he has retained his full mental and physical faculties I suspect that theres a possibility that the daughter is doing the right thing... small possibility but one nonetheless.
