*meh* I took a quick look and only saw kiddie channels. I might be tempted if the content was good, *and* available in Canada. If it's anything like Netflix, it would be a waste of money - copyright laws mean that a lot of content isn't available outside the US.

Yeah I will pay for a lot of BBC content.
Don't own a TV, happy to pick and pay for my choices.

This will benefit pips who spend a lot of time & money to make great tutorials. Why should they work for free?

How will effect IAB if Jenna Marbles is a paid channel
Guess you can't link these channel either.

It's exactly as Gerry1of1 stated with satellite raido, CATV, etc.

Also, many people don't realize that they're really being screwed by digital media. The film/record companies love digital media because it eliminates the buying/selling/trading of used CD's & DVD's. It's perfectly legal to sell or share a used CD/LP/DVD with a friend or to sell it your local used record store. The record companies already got paid the first time around so they don't even make a penny on the sale of used media. If you take the same digital content from said CD/LP/DVD and try to sell or share it, that's illegal, even though it's the same thing as selling/sharing a physical CD/LP/DVD.

Pay? Not a chance. Though this is an ideal time to launch an alternative service! I might try that.

Don't they fill everything with ads to make money already. Keep pushing that and someones going to take the space you made for free videos killing your company.

Has anyone looked at the channels? I'm sorry, but the current content they list just isn't worth it.

Count me in. So long as I'm getting good quality and up to date content it seems like a good way to pick the content I want. No need for bulky SKY Tv packages with hundreds of useless channels. Channels will probably start to team up to offer package deals - childrens/film/sci-fi etc... Surely this is the way forward?

I don't understand why anyone is upset about this tbh. No one you're currently subscribed to will make their subscription paid, the paid subscription will be pretty much solely used for TV shows. I honestly wish that every TV show would be on youtube even if it's a paid subscription. If there was a 5$ subscription to see game of thrones on youtube just a few hours after it comes out then I'd gladly pay. Until then I'll have to resort to torrenting.

Well they need to make revenue some how. I doubt they come even close to breaking even.

why would you pay to watch stuff like sesame street on youtube when you probably already have it on TV. Can't you just watch it on demand through your TV subscription?

I don't think it's a bad idea to charge for some things, it's the way things are going with netflix etc. But I don't think having to pay a subscription for a single channel is that great either.

What we really need is a decent version of netflix that actually has a huge selection of programs and films to choose from. That's the one reason I don't pay for netflix, not enough variety. Every time I want to watch a movie, I usually check my mums netflix account and it's never available.

So instead I spend like 20 minutes finding a decent HD pirated version to watch.

I would much rather pay for a service that can give me any movie I want to watch instantly streamed, but that service just doesn't exist.

I had the whole Satellite radio and the lack of commercials was worth it(not to mention the sound quality was superior). Days when I would goto work about 20minute drive regular radio stations would play maybe 6minutes of songs, the rest commercials.

My rule is, never pay for ANYTHING on the Internet that doesn't come in a FedEx truck.

I'm and old fart. I've seen this before.
Radio was free, but now they want you to pay for Sirius.
TV was free, but then cable came along and for $12 a month you could watch the movie channel commercial free! The played 3 films each day!

NOW we pay for cable so we can watch commercials.

Don't get succered into this. Keep YouTube free!

[quote">and so it begins[/quote">

pay for streaming? already exists

It's not like anything that's utilising fair use would be able to use this, nor music videos for the purposes of advertising, nor indie productions, etc.

as long as 4oD stays free, it's all good
