Typical Oppositional Defiant Disorder punk thinking he is smarter than the adults. I see it all the time.

I like it though, it means job security for me.

The fact that he gives this "advice" upon being asked to leave makes it wreak of BS

i'm amazed at the people calling this kid disrespectful because he WANTS his teacher to care and thus get the kids to care about their education. and suddenly, because he cares and says something about it and you see him as the bad guy? wow! call him a douche-bag all you want but when you criticize someone asking for a better education for him and his peers, well it appears you may be the real douche-bag after all.

Teacher seemed pretty apathetic. 'You're wasting my time.' -Really? Your time?

He mentioned a prior incident where she spoke about her paycheck? -Inappropriate. Talk about your paycheck with the person who hands it to you! No one else.

Maybe she could have tried to convince him that whatever this "packet" is, that it has a purpose and is worth doing. Instead, she tells him to leave.

He's challenging her to challenge them. She wants no part of it. Sad.

I believe the teachers earned their respect by graduating. They absolutely do not need to earn your respect.
Do you treat old ladies in the street with the same disrespect? You don't know them so obviously t hey have not earned your respect yet.. "

so what about your "wicked witch"? heard a lot of that "respect" then on the radio the week that she died...

From what I've read, the US school system is similar to ours in that the basic problem is teachers are too hamstrung by set curricula. It makes it an enormously frustrating job for those who would be good at it - creative, engaging flexible people who adapt to the classroom they're teaching - and far too easy for people who shouldn't be doing it at all - lazy people who see it as a decent pay check with long holidays - to just print off and handout boring home works.

I think to do it effectively you need to love teaching, to be passionate about forming young people into intelligent, well rounded adults. There are teachers like that out there but they are in a minority.

I don't think teachers deserve respect unless they earn it, especially from school children who should learn to judge people on merit and not on their title. Civility and respect are two separate things.

Maybe he's right.
Or maybe he's an idiot .
We don't know how well she teaches.
She just wanted him to leave before he got violent.

Just because people have to earn respect doesn't mean I can' be nice in the meantime. I can be quite pleasant to people, without respecting them.
I know a friend of a friend who is actually a teacher. I fear for the kids in her class. She's a complete nutcase. As were most teachers I had.
Although I'm sure you know that being from where I'm from and being the same age.
People with political office think they should be respected. Do you? With all the corruption and pandering? Our PM is a traitorous corporate maggot. I have less than none for him. I hope he gets the flesh eating bacteria.

As much as i agree with him, esp after the lackluster respone by the teacher. There is smth not quite right about that dude. The way he speaks and his composure raised a flag with me, anybody else have that?

yes, it was a bit rythmical, like a learned script book, maybe like a rap performance

Personally I despise teachers. Every one I had was a dick to me. So I was a dick back.
Respect is earned, not given.

And the argument that you are running a business is not a good one. Every idiot can run a business, you don't necessarily end up under a bridge. And of course running a business doesn't mean that your way has made you a good person, it only means that you found a way to pull the money out of people's wallets.

As someone raised by two teachers. I agree with him. That dude seems like he could educate himself. It's not hard.

It served me better than you would think. As I own my own business and am quite happy.
As for the teachers that I despised, I'm sure most of them are dead now.
If the students of America want an a education system to be proud of they have to fight for it.

He did drop out his freshman year, and decided that it was a bad idea and came back. A news station had an interview with him and he said that he came back to take school seriously, and expects his teachers to too.

They are both right. She is mired down by the bureaucracy and ineptitude. The kid is right because they are not receiving an education. The source of problem that effects them both is that a government run project is always over budget and under performs.

He may be right, but in education you generally get what you pay for.

Without a total reworking of the American education system, all we can do is change how the teachers teach. Which is also why any teacher worth their weight in salt knows about culturally responsive pedagogy and differentiation.

long haired white boy runnin his mouth cause he doesnt like school work. if he doesnt like it, he can drop out. im not denying the current educational system in north america is retarded, but i will say if you dont shut up and say yes maam no maam three bags full maam youll be out on the streets, or living with your parents depending on how cool they are. i dont like it, i dont agree with it, but thats how it is. and bitching to useless teachers about how packets of schoolwork dont teach anything isnt going to change the current system. and if you do go by the system then you end up thousands of dollars in debt trying to go to college and when you get out you realize college was fun but useless at getting you the job you want and you end up working the night shift at wal mart. modern 21st century society sucks.

He makes very valid points. The American school system has TONS of teachers who do this. Do as little as possible to make a paycheck. They don't give a crap about the students. I had several teachers like that.

People can say that kids should "respect the position", but that's crap. Respect is earned--it's not an entitlement.
