[..] how do they get away with claiming a more peaceful time? Let's see, leading up to the 1960's... WW1 and WW2, hello? And during the 60's the Vietnam war?

There was a short lull in conflict following WW2, partly because most of the world was recovering economically and rebuilding and partly because many people had seen far too much war and desperately needed some peace. I know people in their 70s and 80s who are still psychologically affected by WW2 and they were civilians who never left the UK. Spending every day running for shelter and hoping that if you survive the bombing you won't find your friends and family dead and your home destroyed is the sort of thing that makes most people want peace.

I agree that this is the usual fake drivel put out by rabble rousing Libs. I also agree that I approve 100% except to say that the "small moan" is insufficient.

Ignoring the ridiculousness of the excerpt in this article... how do they get away with claiming a more peaceful time? Let's see, leading up to the 1960's... WW1 and WW2, hello? And during the 60's the Vietnam war? Oh, sorry, CONFLICT... such bullpoo in the article from start to finish.
And to hell with any man (or woman) who'd actually like a woman like that.

No-one seems to have brought any religious argument into this yet. Somebody must be blamed!

I thought British sex-ed in the 60s was Jim'll Fix It.

The advice given here is pretty good. I imagine it might have saved many of today's failed marriages.

This is, of course, fake. There's money and power involved in creating a false image of the past, so some people do it.

I've seen it attributed to 3 different countries and various different time periods. It's fake.

"why is it not weird to single out a gender and race, and then use it in a derogatory manner"

Huh? Because the country was not good for non-whites or females. I though that was pretty obvious.

"So yes, the 1950's were pretty cool"

Yes. For white men. You're talking about fiscal policy. Great. although for the people who were being lynched, or those who couldn't get jobs or go to school, or eat at restaurants I very much doubt they think it was "pretty cool".

"With deductions, they were about 40% for the top income - basically the same today."

No. It is 35%. Obama wants 39% and republicans are fighting it like crazy. You did say "basically" but I think 5% is way too much to be considered "basically the same".

And the tax rates weren't 90% like is commonly said as an argument for a 90% tax. With deductions, they were about 40% for the top income - basically the same today. However, they didn't have nearly as many state and local taxes and almost none of the red tape that exists today.

Holygod, why is it not weird to single out a gender and race, and then use it in a derogatory manner?

Also, this isn't what they want to go back to. I'm not aware of my own mother wanting this.

However, anyone with a brain would think Eisenhower was a great president. He was non-internventionist, weary of the military industrial complex, and he had good fiscal policies. He used government for things that were actually beneficial, like the interstate system, and he didn't build it with borrowed money. He had almost no inflation, with minimal intervention in the economy by the fed. Recessions came, he didn't stimulate, they left. In the end, the bottom 90% had over a 20% increase in wages. So yes, the 1950's were pretty cool and we would be wise to be more like the 50's and the 2010's. Becuase so far, the West is sending itself to hell in a handbasket quickly.

This is EXACTLY why republicans (old white men) want the country to go back to like it was in the 50s and 60s.

This is totally fake. Exhibit A is the fact that "This is an actual extract from a sex education...." is printed on the same fake old looking paper as the article.

Anyone know why they used a photo of Oscar Wilde in drag to illustrate this article?
