What's sickening is the lies and distortions you gun-nuts keep spewing.

@turdburglar just makes up baseless hypotheticals.
@pacojohnson thinks you can't possibly buy a gun on the internet without going through a local dealer. Hah!
@MeGrendel thinks the only non-dealers at gun shows are "individuals". They're not paying $50-300 per table just to sell dad's old shotgun. There is a huge sub-culture of non-licensed "dealers" who hit every show. I know 2 guys that make a butt-load that way. PLUS he thinks "it's not something you can regulate." Six states already require UNIVERSAL background checks on ALL firearm sales at gun shows. Three more require checks on all handgun sales at gun shows. And it works! So stop saying it can't.

Americans will ALWAYS have the right to bear arms. Period. But what's wrong with trying a little harder to keep guns out of the wrong hands?

"we" may not govern by polls here in the US, but the democrats certainly do! Why do you think there were democratic defectors on the vote.

Draculya:-"When the legislature differs from the polls"

Two points:

1) That statement is a fallacy as we do not govern based on polls.

2) That statement is even more of a fallacy because if we did govern on polls it would only work if the POLL resembled the LEGISLATION in any way, and were accurate in any way. This poll accomplished neighter.

Draculya:-"it's a sign that democracy is dead"

For your education: 'The United States of America (USA or U.S.A.), commonly called the United States (US or U.S.), or America, is a federal republic consisting of fifty states and a federal district as well as several territories with differing degrees of autonomy'

first, US is not a democracy, we have a representative government. Our representative government, theoretically being more stable/long-sighted than yesterdays latest poll...is a better way to govern. Our reps think that a more restrictive background check, on close examination, would reduce our freedoms and greatly increase the federal government's power, and voted overwhelmingly against it. Deal with it.

Secondly, I am sure if you polled Berkley CA, you would get 99% in favor of confiscating guns! There is NO WAY 90% of actual americans, fairly sampled, would agree on anything. These are spurious poll results

@Melcervini = "Gets it"!

@lauriloo = "No clue"

Hint: "Gun Show" = "Yard Sale" ok?

To regulate the sale of ANY firearm in the USA would require FULL REGISTRATION of ALL weapons!

#1 That would likely cost $1,000,000,000,000+ dollars (a TRILLION) based on Canada's experience.
#2 would be UTTERLY UNENFORCABLE.
#3 Would DIRECTLY VIOLATE the 2nd Amendment, which is a RIGHT not a "law" ok?

Grow up girl! If the Dems overturned the 2nd Amendment? Then there would be NO ISSUE! It would be both right and law (to NOT own guns).

But they DO NOT and the CANNOT! So they SNEAK AROUND.

It's sickening...

word play... we can clearly see (as i assumed correctly) that the question being asked is "do you want background checks" of course!!!! DUH!!! Slowbama said "expanded background checks" which is NOT what the pole numbers show and thus the lies and more misleading bs. Crystal clear.

lauriloo-"There are NO laws for guns sold at gun shows and on the internet."

See, this is where you demonstrate your ignorance.

The SAME EXACT laws that apply to purchasing guns from a dealer apply at gun shows and on the internet.

If I buy a gun from a dealer at a gunSHOP, I am required to pass a background check.
If I buy a gun from an individual, I am not (it's not something you can regulate, anyway).

If I buy a gun from a dealer at a gunSHOW, I am required to pass a background check.
If I buy a gun from an individual at a gunSHOW, I am not (it's not something you can regulate, anyway).

If I buy a gun from a dealer on the internet, I am required to pass a background check.
If I buy a gun from an individual who posted an add on Craigslist, I am not (it's not something you can regulate, anyway..but I sure as hell wouldn't purchase one from anyone on Cragslist).

Please educate yourself before you demonstrate yo

Any firearm I've looked in to buying on the internet has required that you arrange shipment to an approved FFL, where they do the background check and transfer the firearm to you. Unless you are talking about finding them on craigslist, which is just a private sale, not "buying guns on the internet". What do you call answering a classified ad for a firearm in a local newspaper? Buying guns through the mail?

"enforce the laws on the books first."

There are NO laws for guns sold at gun shows and on the internet. that's the point. What's there to enforce? Most crimes are committed by guns SOLD without bkg checks, NOT stolen guns.

Enforce what´s currently there already. Realize murder is already a crime, as is terrorism. Less emotional overreaction. American news is starting to look like the ravings of a highschool relationship on it´s downward spiral, lot of emotion, lot of arguing and overreacting, very little logic, calm or common sense.

Exactly like I keep saying: People support the CONCEPT.

Obama's Bill had NOTHING to do with what "the people" want. It was gun-grabbing garbage so BAD even fellow Dems couldn't stomach it!

Now, are these 3 states "red" or "blue"? I don't care enough to lookitup...

@optimusdrone: Exactly! Ask a poll about THAT! Then we'll talk.

@slut_etta: That's crazy talk! Why would the Democrats want to do that?

Sure, of course 90% want a background check to make sure "criminals" don't get guns. Unfortunately, there is no way to actually check for that. Example:

Questionaire:
Do you plan to commit a crime with any firearm?
Do you plan to assault or murder any person with a firearm?
Are you criminally insane?
If you said "YES" to any of the above......"

They shouldn't ask if one is in favor of background checks, they should ask if you are in favor of the current proposed laws regarding background checks.

I am in favor of better background checks in principle. In reality the anti-gun group would never stop there. Firstly they would use the new laws to block as many gun sales as possible. After the new laws become the norm they would start pushing tighter restrictions. That would continue until our 2nd amendment rights are completely gone.
How about we leave everything as is? Maybe enforce the current laws. The proposed laws won't do anything to reduce gun related violence. They are just a stepping stone for tyranny.

We can give up our rights when we have a government we can trust. We will have a government we can trust when they stop trying to make us give up our rights.

If there was so much supprt why have the ant-gunner failed. Skewed data is skewed... besides the point that they pushed for far more than background checks and passed laws in the middle of the night that made no sense.
