Excellent point, An-egg! Didn't think of how that particular scale type works. Good stuff.

If your weight can not be measured on this because it's too high, than the statement is mostly false. Sometimes you can judge a book by it's lazy, gluttonous, rascal driving cover.

Your "numerical relationship" to gravity often says a lot about the rest of those factors.

An-egg: That's a really good observation! I had never thought about it, but of course you're correct. There's a good trick question in there!

That would be true of a spring balance, but this is a lever scale, which compares your mass to the mass on the bar, and will show the same on the Moon or the earth because the weight on the bar that you are being compared to is similarly altered by the change in gravity.

You are correct in your assertion about weight and mass, but this scale evaluates mass.

FinePoint, please excuse me if you were just being sarcastic, but, gravity and being fat (or, as I prefer, "body mass") are related in that a person using that same scale on the moon (where there's less gravity) would receive a reading that would say the person actually weighs less. For example, a 150 lbs person on earth only weighs 25 lbs on the moon. Their mass is the same, their body shape the same, everything else the same, but the scale weighs them differently, due to the different gravity of the moon.

Of course, as I say, if you were being sarcastic, please disregard.

I don't think that note was put on the scale to target fat people. I mean really, what percentage of gym rats are fat? It's a reminder to everyone that has body issues that they are more than just their physical self.

It can definitely measure your health. And if you're at an unhealthy weight, you have problems.
