A man who created nothing, spent a career putting down those who did.

"Well, apparently we weren't watching the same movie!!"
"I guess not!"
- maximum disagreement level between Siskel & Ebert.
I'll alway remember that.

I would give his death one thumb down. The ending was predictable and the storyline was mediocre. I thought the cancer cells played a strong role as supporting actors. Their performance was quite good. Overall, I would give this movie a 6/10.

I used to like his movie reviews; then he turned into an idiot leftwing f***tard. In his final years he became a loathsome, despicable person. I won't miss him at all.

i cried. being one of the most famous movie critics, many people don't even bother to read his reviews. he was one of THE most open minded people, giving great reviews especially in the 80's and 90's to more obscure movies, and most importantly movies that may change people's minds on gay men, and other often disliked people in the media of that day ... critics are snobs. he was not.

his is a piece Ebert wrote after the 9/11 attacks, if I recall after being the target of some snide remarks for sitting down during 'God Bless America' at a baseball.

I had a lot of respect for the man, even though he never came around on his belief that games can't be art. He was 70, so I'll let him have that.

Sad to hear. You guys posted a great "Ted Talks" clip on here a while back where his wife and friends read a letter he wrote. I don't suppose that the mods could dig it up and repost it?

I am genuinely saddened by this news. I grew up watching his reviews. I may not have always agreed with him, but I could always tell whether I would like a movie based on his review.

I like that he kept going after a quarter of his face was removed from cancer. Other people would have stopped working.

people with real jobs would have stopped working, but writing your opinions is not very strenuous...shiet, I'd love to get paid to write how I felt for a bunch of strangers..i do it for free already

Link: Roger Ebert Dead At 70: My Thumbs Are Down [Rate Link] - I used to love Siskel and Ebert's movie reviews back in the day. Almost as entertaining as the movies they reviewed.
