I'm with you HolyGod when it comes to Pawn Stars & American Pickers. I remember hearing about the shows before they first aired thinking "What the f*ck does this have to do with history?" I never watched an episode of Pawn Stars until their 3rd season and it was only because my brother put it on when there was a marathon (4th of July weekend or something like that) and after one episode I was hooked. You really can learn a whole lot about history, plus it's funny at times and some of the sh*t that people bring in there is just unbelievable!

My "History Channel" offers Big Rig Bounty Hunters, William Shatner's Weird or What, and Yukon Gold (modern day mining) on Thursday, and a two-hour chapter of The Bible, a series that treats the book as history, on Friday.

And that's why I stopped watching broadcast television.

"Pawn Stars, American Restoration, Swamp People, American Pickers, Canadian Pickers. I sh*t you not."

If you don't think Pawn Stars, American Restoration, and American Pickers have historical content then you have never seen them.

History isn't limited to wars. It includes pop culture history, old cars, antiques, and any other relevant things from the past.

Watch an episode of Pawn Stars. They'll have a civil war gun that an expert comes in and talks about, then a clock from the 1600s that an expert comes in and talks about, then a Thomas Jefferson journal that a museum curator comes in and talks about. That is history. It just has a bunch of goofy "reality" tv sprinkled in for ratings.

I don't know about Swamp People, I've never seen that.

I don't know why the History Channel gets a bad wrap.

Maybe in the US, HolyGod. Here in Canada it's utter sh*te (as is Discovery Channel here). Example, here's the programming schedule for the next 5 nights here on "History" Channel: Pawn Stars, American Restoration, Swamp People, American Pickers, Canadian Pickers. I sh*t you not.

History Channel back in the UK is better than here in Canada. However, my only complaint with the UK programming is that quite a lot of f*cking history happened outside the years 1939 to 1945.

"I don't know why the History Channel gets a bad wrap.

I have never seen a show on there that didn't have historical education as a large component."

I almost fell for that one....almost.

mervviscious

"how about the show called the Bible, that's fictitious.."

Of course it is. However legends, fairy tales, and creation myths are all an important part of human history.
