They hated him because an American won the Tour de Lance.
Many many times.
They tried knocking him off his bike during the race, throwing things at him. The audacity of a yanky winning!

@gerry, honestly I doubt anyone would have cared if he hadn't made so much money. Of course everyone else was doping but some just weren't doping well enough. |
