This list would've been perfectly reasonable back in the 50's. Old customs have no place in modern times. Special treatment is a privilege, not a right.

Sarahofborg has the right attitude. Gerry, you need to get with the times man.

hey it is the men in society that decided that they should walk on the side closet to the street. I never understood why. Most girls couldn't care less than that.

Thank You for being kind and thoughtful, it will mean I am also kind and thoughtful. Paying for me however simply means I will pay next time- neither of us wants to feel obliged, do we. flowers are nice, I hope you like the book I bought. BTW- opening doors is nice but really, I can manage.

I find it hysterical when men whine about the selective service for two reasons. 1. Women did not decide they weren't eligible for the selective service. Women were not fighting to keep women from fighting in combat positions, men were doing that. Blaming women for poo men are responsible for is the height of delusion. 2. The draft is never coming back, guys. They learned the hard way that forcing people to go to war against their will makes people pay attention to what's happening. The unrest of the 60s was, in part, a result of people seeing the injustice of poor people being forced to go fight in a war we shouldn't have been involved in against their will. Find a new axe to grind, this one is worn to the nub.

That being said, most women could give a poo about any of the five things on the list. Save anniversaries that matter and birthdays, sure, some nice gift, nothing shiny, or a dinner or night away from my kids, but you generally don't need to do anything special daily but not be a douche or neglectful and should some general love and affection.

As a woman who served in the Army before, during, and after 9/11, I believe women should sign up for selective service, and that all 18-26 year olds should serve two years of military or civilian service, as do all of my fellow female vets I've discussed this with. Don't speak for women if you don't know them all, especially those of us who volunteered for military service. Good day.

I do everything that I consider demeaning for a woman to do with a guy around for my girl. Kill rodents and bugs, change tires, oil changes, unclog sinks and toilets, shovel snow, etc. This stuff is window dressing.

It's not about being treated as "special" it's just nice and shows you care, at least 1, 2 and 5. Short of buying flowers for him/her I will do the same things when I can because I like them, not because I think they're incapable or because I want something out of it. My ex would buy lunch, and I'd pay him back by buying him something he wanted, he'd hold the door usually because he was there first and if I was I would, people get all weird about the silliest things. I'm just going to leave silver's comment alone ._.;

SarahofBorg,
"I'm perfectly capable of opening my own car door without falling all over my face. I find it rather insulting, honestly, to be treated like I'm so incapable of taking care of myself."

I think with Sarah, courtesy is futile.

Nope. You wanted to vote, you wanted to join the work force, you wanted to serve in the military. Do it yourself.

SarahofBorg-"I find it rather insulting, honestly, to be treated like I'm so incapable of taking care of myself."

That says more about your attitude than of the guy's.

It is not condescending or treating you like you are incapable of doing so. It is a sign of respect, that he is thinking of you.

I open the door for my wife. I open the door for strangers, women, men, old or young. It's called being courteous.

Once held the door for several people: Elderly couple, kids, etc. The last couple was two ladies..the butch of the two stepped back and stated 'I don't need no GD man to hold no GD door for her.'. I could have been nice and said, "sorry, mistook you for a lady." Instead I looked at her and said, "Then I guess a blow job is out of the question." And walked off to an ovation.

If you think that your boyfriend holding the door for a lady is condescending, then I submit that you're no lady.

and the women take it because they make no effort to be respectable themselves

its a well known fact nice guys finish last when it comes to girls. if you REALLY want a girl to like you, treat her like crap, ignore her when she talks, and, most importantly, ignore everything on this list

Okay, here's the deal.
Men will pull out chairs, open doors, and kill spiders for you.
Women will do the laundry, clean the house, and make the damn sammiches.

Gerry, I'm reading exactly what it says. The article says a guy should open the door for a girl so she doesn't have to go through the difficult and dangerous work of escaping the car without breaking a shoe heel. It's one thing to protect a girl from a genuine potential threat (such as the road), it's another to go out of your way to do something for her that only protects her vanity.
Yes, there are a lot of crappy guys who treat girls like crap and the women take it because they make no effort to be respectable themselves. Still, just because I make an effort to look pretty doesn't mean I want a guy to be my savior from the world of prettiness-endangering threats. To be honest, this car door thing is the only thing on this list that annoys me. The rest makes a good amount of sense.

I do all these things because I enjoy doing them for her. I imagine most girls like it because it shows respect and manners. Let's face it, women have to sort through waves of d-bags and this is one small way to do it.

I think my worst habit in the dating world is automatically doing everything myself. People always tell me that guys like to be the one who "takes care" of the woman and likes when the woman asks them to do things for them. When a guy opens a door for me and there's another door soon after, I'll open it for him because he let me get there first. I guess I need to learn to feign helplessness a little, at least until we get to know each other better.

"my boyfriend does favors for me ALL the time, but it's a favor, not an act to protect my precious pathetic pretty little lady ass from the dirty mean world"

Got some issues there Sarah? You're reading a whole lot into it. These are just simple courtesies. Societies symbols that show a man's respect for the woman. And the girls who insist on them are telling the man "you better treat me right or I'm outta here!"

But nowadays women put up with all kinds of crap from what laughingly passes for a young "man". Big-Boy is what I call them. But why should they grow up? No one expects them to and they get what they want without the work, so I guess they're doing pretty good.
