"Tell me more about how criminals follow laws."

Well, let's see...

The Theater shooter followed laws completely while amassing his arsenal.

The school shooter took his mom's guns, and she presumably followed all applicable laws. Had their been a law on the books that would have prevented her son from accessing what he accessed she probably would have followed it.

This is not about gang bangers. Gang bangers can find a gun no matter how illegal it is. This is about crazy middle class white kids. They don't have any idea how to find an illegal gun. As a middle class white kid, I can attest to that.

Getting your arguments from Comedy Central should be the first indicator your argument is a joke.

@crakrjak While studying US politics Daily Show was suggested as an easy way to keep upto date with the US political landscape and what was going on. From the perspective of someone who doesn't give a flying drat about your country internal fighting I agree with HolyGod, Jon Stewart knows more about politics then you do, he comes into contact with more, Has to know it well to satire it for the US audience. (granted his humour is just funny voices and repeating what's been said/happening but your country seems to like that humour.) But I would bet everything on him being more in the loop and informed then you.

"they don't have to maintain ANY journalistic standards because again it's a comedy show"

Have you watched the news lately? Most of them don't exactly adhere to journalistic standards either.

Despite how genuine John Stewart is, how is it James Sensenbrenner's fault for wanting senate oversight to a national agency? Isn't it the Senates fault for once again not doing their required tasks? Especially when the Senate reviewed it, knew it, and still voted for it on March 1, 2006.
Secondly, how does one conclude that the gun violence was a result of no ATF director. John Magaw was director in 1994 when the Federal Assault Weapons Ban went into effect and the University of PA., the Institute of Justice, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Research Council, and the United States Department of Justice all found that the assault weapon ban "did not reveal any clear impacts on gun violence" and noted "due to the fact that the relative rarity with which the banned guns were used in crime before the ban." And yet this is the same thing, most shootings are with handguns. Assault rifles make up only 1.61% of gun crimes.

I don't know what you guys are arguing about, since "anchor" just means "likeable guy who can read things off the teleprompter", and "journalistic integrity" flew out the window a LOOONG time ago.

"The fact that you believe Jon Stewart is an 'anchor' that does 'news', just cements the fact that your brain is made of rock."

You know how I know your brain is made of rock? Because you don't know what putting a word in quotes means.

"if you think Jon Stewart knows more about world issues and politics than you do, I'm sure you're right."

I'm sure he knows more about it than you do to. The guy sits down and personally talks to presidents, senators, governors, world leaders, activists, scientists, and activists on a daily basis.

You think you are more informed because you read right wing blogs and watch fox news? Come on.

HG: The fact that you believe Jon Stewart is an 'anchor' that does 'news', just cements the fact that your brain is made of rock.

His show is NOT news, it's a comedy show, they don't have to maintain ANY journalistic standards because again it's a comedy show. If you're getting your facts from there, then YOU are the joke.

"Entertainers are treated like they know more than you and me"

I'm pretty sure John Stewart does know more than you and me when it comes to world issues and politics. Yes he is a comedian, but he is the "anchor" on a "news" program, even if it does have a comedic leaning. He still interviews world leaders and scholars and I'm sure he preps for it appropriately.

"That's whats wrong with this country"

- Right, cuz entertainers publicizing their opinion and *maybe* changing a few people's minds is more destructive to the US than corporate lobbies actively buying politicians.

Though, I do agree, movie stars, musicians, and tv people's opinions mean nothing to me. But, J.Stewart is a comedian. He makes fun of politicians.

I think the big thing is that there's no longer any difference between anyone in government. They're all corrupt.
I think it's time for a big reset.

This @ss clown actually had some good points. Now the overpaid court jester needs to do the same as the rest of the Hollywood court jesters, go sit in the corner and STFU until I desire you to entertain me. That's whats wrong with this country. Entertainers are treated like they know more than you and me. Remember folks, they ARE the 1 percent everybody protested. And usually live the good life in an alcohol or drug induced fog. NOT worthy of the credit they get.

So lemme see if I've got this right. The NRA stridently opposes any changes to legislation, arguing that existing legislation needs to be enforced--while maneuvering behind the scenes to prevent existing legislation from being enforced.

Yeah, that seems about right. Why am I not surprised?
