No healthcare is free- our wonderful NHS is not free- it is free at point of service, we pay through National Insurance, which is levied according to income.


But that's how it was sold to the American people. There are a lot of people who voted for Obama based on the promise of free healthcare. Those people have a rude awakening coming when they realize they have to pay for it or be penalized.

I never did understand why you Americans allowed insurance companies to dictate if you live or die.

What they didn't mention here, of course, is that the ~$65/month is going to be granted to the tax payer by the government in the form of a healthcare rebate. It's not like you're being told you have to go out and get buy it, you're being given the money to do so. If you take the money and choose *not* to use it to buy or subsidize your insurance? *That's* when you'll risk a penalty.
