"Mr.5Cats some of the stuff you like scares me."

@LikeIGiveASh: I'm a cat of many tastes! Welcome to IAB! Have you watched the "Girls und Panzer" show? It's absolutely wonderful!

Watch Legally, For Free Here!

@Toider: King Tiger = undisputed heavyweight champion of WW2 tanks.
(Some very good American and Russian "super-heavy" tanks were made but didn't see action).

@madduck: Usually they haul them around on really big flatbed trailers, at night.

Doesnt take that long to swap tracks from metal to rubber
Hour at the most,
Got a static down Pendine sands West Wales,
were the army do exercise practices on the beach
Saw a few tanks trundling down the road to the beach early in the morning
and some bloody great aircraft landings hitting the beach at god knows what speed

Yeah- must be the metal tracks then- I see a few as I live not far from Salisbury plain, but only charging around a field- and those have very heavy metal tracks- I don't see them on the roads though- but why would I??

Strangely. It's more legal in England than in the US.

In England you can drive tanks on the public road.
Only problem is that in England you can't have a working gun on your tank, something 90% of privately owned tanks in the US don't have either. Simply because even in the US, getting the paperwork to own a drivable cannon is surprisingly difficult.

"No Lord Jim- I have a feeling they aren't allowed on roads- I 'think' the army have to get permission 'cause tracks are often metal and do damage. Not sure WHY I think that- any British army chaps on here know????"

You can drive a tank on UK roads as long as it has been fitted with rubber tracks, you can go
and buy one and drive it on the roads
but it must be de activated!!
This one is for hire in London
pic taken on a event were it was repainted for a
AD event

Maxim once had an article on buying tanks, you can get them much cheaper than this one. Far as the article was concerned, it's legal if the main gun is not usable and it has rubber treads. Seems with a special permit you can get around the first part.

Some public roads might not be strong enough for the really heavy tanks, 50-tons+. But lots of tracked heavy equipment drives on roads around here.

Like it says, local laws might restict one's tank-fun. That "propane .50 cal" is amazing though!

Girls und Panzer A bit long, skip to 0:45 if you like.

Katyusha Song 60 seconds of beautiful singing, in tanks!

Anglerfish Dance #2 (with lyrics!) Sing along now!

Sorry about the advert, idk where that came from, at least you can "skip" it.

WW2 era tanks = teh awesome! Big or little, any country, they're all amazing.

@madduck: There's different treads (iirc) that can make them safe for roads. But those "road tracks" are useless off-road, and it's a big deal to switch them! Also expensive.
Like the article suggests, mostly tanks do NOT wander around on public streets

Thanks for putting this up @FancyLad & @The_Mods! I find it very interesting, I hope others will too.

not on public roads though I take it- the tracks would shred the tarmac surely?

Nah, this is America, we don't make our roads out of marshmallows. Actually though the tracks are rubber just like tires (tyres?), and do relatively little damage to well made roads.

Good for him. If I had the cash I'd be tempted, but I'm sure madduck is right - not on public roads.
