"Bat's Dinner"
A poem in free verse by Carmium
Once in a small town one quiet summer night,
I was out walking.
Three fat Sphinx moths were fluttering
Under the cone of light from an isolated streetlamp,
When in dead silence, a bat tore in,
Did a double S turn, snagged each one
And vanished--all in about a second.
I must have stood
With my mouth hanging open
For half a minute.
