(1) It's not so simple if you're moving more than a 400sqft apartment's worth of gear
(2) It's not so simple if you're moving into a smaller apartment.
(3) Mucha moolah

My first job was removals. We were not really at that level, more on this level.

Wish we had service like that here...

We are having a pack out done for our basement to have our tile re-grouted. My husband will be taking the day off to supervise the movers to make sure nothing is stolen or damaged.

So a move for a 3 bedroom apartment, around 1000sqft will cost you $2-$3k. Given that this is a months rent for that same apartment in Tokyo and it doesn't seem so bad.

I'm sure that's expensive, but seems worth it.

Moving is a major headache, and usually a backache as well. These are real pros that have it all figured out, kudos.

Fast, polite and considerate are pretty much built into Japanese society.

I don't know how I would feel about a bunch of strangers going through all my stuff and touching all my things. I mean, cool they clean everything and stuff.. but still.. a little skeevy feeling knowing they have seen / touched everything.

I can vouch for this, it's all true. It's amazing how different the service industry is in Japan coming from the US. Plus unlike the US it's unlikely the people moving your things are ex-cons or drug addicts.
