I think the star-ship "Magellan" is a galaxy class starship (like enterprise D)....but there is a ship called the "Nautilus" which is a Magellan class star-ship. So the ship they labeled Magellan in the end credits was actually the Nautilus.

When in doubt go to Memory Alplha. If it aint there it don't exist.

"The USS Magellan was a Federation starship that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century. In the 2360s, the Magellan was under the command of Captain Conklin. (TNG: "Starship Mine")" PHOTO

Obviously not the same ship as in this video. So I suppose it's a Fan Invention he slipped into the vid. It has the look of FireFly mixed in.

What amazes me as an oldie is that what you can do on the desktop now completely blows what ILM was doing say 10/15 years ago out of the water.

@Gerry: Agreed.. But if my memory serves, it wasn't an actual federation ship. An alien had disguised his vessel as a federation ship to lure the voyager crew to leave voyager, so he could kidnap them and take them to the Borg for assimilation. Something about revenge, i think.

@turdburglar: correction, i image-googled Magellan, and a pics of a ship of the same design came up. But there was no mention of a ship matching that design on any of the star trek wiki's.. -> probably fan art.

Kain 1 - Well, in the end credits they mislabeled the Defiant as the Quadrant. They probably did the same with the ship they called Magellan.

I think they under powered the Defiant in this clip. It was the Federations only ship built specifically as a warship. It should have been faster and more powerful.

Also, it would have been awesome if they had the Enterprise D separate the saucer section for the battle.

I've never seen Star Fleet shields hold-out for so long. Then again, my screen was so covered with semen I couldn't see much of anything.

As I said, it was a guess.
I never did like the slipstream ship style.
Looks like a lawn dart.

Gerry:

Engage Nerd Mode: ... I believe it's a class of ship from one episode of Voyager. A relativity class ship that uses Slipstream Drive. All of them were just part of a fantasy placed in the crews head by a giant alien Pitcher Plant, but they stuck it in this fan film anyway.

I think that's what it comes from.

First of all, the slip stream drive ship and the pitcher plant were in different episodes.

Second of all, the slip stream drive ship was called the Dauntless, and looked like this:

I couldn't find a Magellan that looked like the one in this video anywhere. Most likely fan art.

@ StompinRound - okay, you're an oddball.
Here you go.
Battlestar Galactica vs Star Wars vs Star Trek vs Babylon 5
Unless someone wants Lost In Space mashed up that should take care of everyone's needs.

Here is one possible scenario.
CAPT. PICARD vs LORD VADER
I'm not saying it would happen this way, but it could.

auburnjunky: The problem with most Star Wars shields is that small fighters can pass through the shielding of the big ships. The lone exception being the shields that protected the 2nd death star on Endor.

Another little discussed aspect. It took the Emperor to command clone troopers to their maximum efficiency. Watch Return of The Jedi again, up until the Emperor dies they are kicking the rebels ass, afterwards they fold like paper. The shocking loss of their telepathic link to the Emperor affected them greatly.

So w/o the Emperor and w/o some strong exterior shielding, the smaller Star Trek ships would cut through empire ships quite easily. Also judging by the damage the empire's star destroyers took going through an asteroid field, I'm not sure that normal Star Wars shields would stop photon torpedoes.

As much as I love Sci-fi movies, (I have hundreds of 'em), I still find it baffling that the technologically advanced spaceships of the future and their occupants are still incapable of hitting a barn-door with a shot-gun at 50 paces. What a waste of ammo!

It's Germany's 4-Engine Heavy Bomber.
Yes FOUR! What, only two "propellers"? It still has 4 engines!
It might have been a terrific bomber had it been used 1 year earlier...
It had a nasty habit of the engines catching on fire...
It dropped the first "guided bomb" to sink an enemy ship.

HMTRohna

Overall? It was good, but not as good as the British heavies or the USA's fleet.

Had a similar discussion not too long ago, boiled down to shields trumping no shields every time. It's such a huge advantage, and the photon torpedoes are the clincher when talking about v.s. other t.v. series.

@Gerry1

I'm with ya on the Trek animated series and don't get me wrong I'm a lifelong Trek fan. I just have a hard time envisioning them doing battle in either the SW or BSG universes.

As far as a Battlestar would fair against a Star Destroyer. They both are heavily armed with laser batteries and missile launchers so it would be a good fight to be sure. There are also various other types of ships in the colonial fleet, you just don't see them in the original series.

Lolz!
They were pretty terrible actually, but did introduce many "Star Trek" ideas into the mix!

I bow to your "modeling skillz"!

Star Wars is a totally different galaxy altogether.

True that @auburnjunky! It's a VERY different set of "rules" eh?
I don't disagree, the "Star Wars" ships are indeed powerful. But ONE torpedo destroyed the "Death Star #1" and THAT is funneh to me!

Also: Luke Skywalker killed 1,000,000 people...
A...million...souls...

@djwajda: Thanks for the linky! You're "good poeple" too!

The whole "size" thing:
Battleships: kill you from 12+ miles away.
Cruisers: Kill you from 8 miles away.
Destroyers: Kill you from 1 mile away.

So a cheap destroyer can kill an UBER-expensive Battleship if it gets close enough.

The role of the "Cruiser" is to keep those pesky destroyers AWAY from the batleships!

WW2 tactics...IN SPACE!
