"The allies had excellent cryptographic intelligence indicating the Japanese military were rapidly building up their defenses in areas targeted for allied invasion...They correctly judged the military were still firmly in control and determined to fight on rather than accept unconditional surrender."

Yep, and do you know why those areas were targeted for allied invasion? Because they were the best areas to invade, it wasn't just the allies who wanted to invade Japan. If Japan surrendered to the allies there was no guarantee that they wouldn't be invaded by the Russians. Dropping more bombs only showed that not accepting the allies' ultimatum would end up being worse than a Russian invasion.

"We nuked the japs. Problem is:We stopped there. N.Korea,Iraq, and a few others need to feel that pain."

Yeah you need to kill a few more hundred of thousands of civilians... how dare their autocratic leaders insult murica!!

"You got a big MO Fo bomb

you got a invader in your house, you have a gun, or a wooden spoon, what you gonna use???
always use the biggest fecker you got
and do it
war is bad, no good putting it on a personal level"

F*cking idiot. Use the biggest and baddest weapon you've got? Do you realise how quickly technology is developing? Do you realise that with that mindset the world is completely and utterly doomed?

There were far more civilian deaths caused in the fire bombings of Germany than nuking Japan something the high and mighty Europeans here will never point out for obvious reason. Along with the whole creating 2 world wars.

It was reported at the time to overcome Japan
100,000 US and allied army lives would possibly be lost
so they dropped big bombs

N.Korea is now the new threat
along with Iran
etc..
N.Korea being the maniac factor

[quote">You continue to argue for something not even present in the historical record[/quote">

Yet, it's not that hard to find

US Strategic Bombing Survey

[quote">Based on a detailed investigation of all the facts, and supported by the testimony of the surviving Japanese leaders involved, it is the Survey's opinion that certainly prior to 31 December 1945, and in all probability prior to 1 November 1945, Japan would have surrendered even if the atomic bombs had not been dropped, even if Russia had not entered the war, and even if no invasion had been planned or contemplated.[/quote">

You continue to argue for something not even present in the historical record.

And you ignore that not only were many American, British, and Russian lives spared by the bomb but many Japanese lives as well.

I've already said war is hell, nobody wants killing if it can be avoided. But you make the best decision you can and more to the point you make the decision to win. End of story.

Cajun read the damn article before you open your mouth.

Then you can join conoas in advocating for the deaths of many thousands more in a costly unnecessary full scale allied land invasion.

See what I did there?

They correctly judged the military were still firmly in control and determined to fight on rather than accept unconditional surrender.

Good grief, YOU support this gross mass murder as well? Sure they didn't want an unconditional surrender. That does not mean they were unwilling to surrender. So good job burning yourself while justifying the mass incineration of almost entire country.

I guess I really am gonna have to hold your hand throughout this whole shebang.

Here we go: "The allies had excellent cryptographic intelligence indicating the Japanese military were rapidly building up their defenses in areas targeted for allied invasion...They correctly judged the military were still firmly in control and determined to fight on rather than accept unconditional surrender."

All this before the 1st bombing at Hiroshima (Nagasaki was after). You don't even have the correct timeline. There was no surrender of any type offered between those bombings either.

You can't even remember how many bombs we had let alone even the correct timeline of events that actually happened in real life.

Lie down before you hurt yourself.

i don't think this is something to joke about. I think any nuclear bomb has the ability to cause considerable hard to our atmosphere. Especially with todays technology, in any world's nation. Don't joke about destroying my planet. K.thx.bye.

"You just got schooled by a 'Murican too no less, which must really hurt your inflated ego. "
What are you talking about? You only proved that you're an idiot. You said that the reason for the Nagasaki bombing was because the first reply of the Japanese was "mokusatsu". Even if you are correct then that's only proving me right.

"Perhaps it's you that needs to read up on your history."
GJ choosing a link filled with bullpoo. 5 paragraphs debating what the japanese initial response, "mokusatsu", actually meant in english and nothing else. Yep, that's totally what's important here.

@earplay
are you serious? You had at least 3 bombs and only used 2. Please explain why there was a need to start with "a strong demonstration"? The US had more than enough a-bombs for a proper bombing IF NEEDED. It was not a complex moral decision at all, it was a pretty simple one and the USA drated it up.

No sweetie pie, it talks about how the allied powers, the *UK* included were all cool with the general plan of action. And about how we were gonna have the both of you, Russia and the UK come charging right on in with us if we decided to invade. (More's the merrier).

And how certain Japanese civilian elements may have tried to "send out peace feelers through the Russians" but civilians were not in control of the government, the military was and so we had to deal with them.

Laziness wins you no favors here dearie. (And we only had 2 atomic bombs, Little Boy and Fat Man.)

You just got schooled sucka.

Ohhh good! An IAB fight. Can I get in? Here I come! Canoas, the use of the atomic bomb saved millions of lives, Japanese included. American troops were dying every day and the US was in no mood to lose more than necessary to the Japanese. Given the time it takes to construct one, there was no incentive to start with anything other than a strong demonstration. Do you think the Chinese or Vietnamese or Burmese or Koreans or Russians or anyone else objected to the decimation of a Japanese city. In the abstract calculus of war, it was a not a complex moral decision. Sad, but true.
