Friday, February 22, 2013 8:37:55 PM Seems that most of these problems only affect the US. Maybe the world's not ending, maybe it's just 'Murica that's F'd. Enjoy. |

Friday, February 22, 2013 4:17:16 AM @Chalket: I've never mentioned Kennesaw on IAB before. Congrats! Also, it isn't the guns that lowered the crime rate, it was the perception of guns. A good deterrent and all that. Yes, their overall crime rate fell after the law was passed. Cannot deny that. Of course a police official will cite police as the cause. Wouldn't expect any less. He is trying to get a raise, as anyone would. Why can't you accept that guns, in the hands of law abiding citizens, deter crime? |

Friday, February 22, 2013 1:30:50 AM I thought this was going to be interesting, I think the last one was the only interesting one... There have been reports of it raining fish before, spiders are just more terrifying, and it was caught on tape. |

Thursday, February 21, 2013 10:07:44 PM (continued) Kennesaw police Lieutenant Craig Graydon estimates about half the town's households now own a gun, about the same as before the law, and that the law had nothing to do with the town's low crime rate, he credits police efforts and community cooperation. |

Thursday, February 21, 2013 10:07:21 PM @auburnjunky You keep trotting out "Kennesaw Georgia" as your prime example but do you really know what you're talking about? The 1982 law was nothing more than a symbolic stab at Morton Grove, Illinois for their law banning handguns. It is totally unenforceable and it did little to change the number of firearms in the city. every citizen must own a fire arm Are you really saying that every man, woman and child must own a firearm? LOL! The law says "every head of household residing in the city limits is required to maintain a firearm" with exemptions for those who are morally opposed, mentally or physically disabled, or simply can't afford one. The crime nearly dropped to zero. Kennesaw's 2012 "Property Crime" rate was 24.67 per 1,000 residents compared to the national average of 29.1, not a huge difference. Their "Crimes Per Square Mile" is 80 compared to the national median of 39.6. |

Thursday, February 21, 2013 8:56:01 PM Also, if a European writes something that focuses on European events, I don't whine that it's Euro-centric. Because it just makes sense that a European would be Euro-centric, focusing on Europe. It's your derangement at work again. |

Thursday, February 21, 2013 8:53:24 PM MacGuffin, you're being weird again. And I'm not really a gun advocate, but societies where every single person owns a gun are *not* the most problematic. You're talking about states like Iowa, New Hampshire, Utah - states with the highest gun ownership and murder rates about the same as the UK. It's a legitimate argument to say they could have problems, but saying "It's generally the places where each person owns their very own gun that usually have trouble." is really, really dumb. I mean for real. Firstly, no place in America has universal ownership. Switzerland effectively does, though. Complex systems are a bitch, aren't they. |

Thursday, February 21, 2013 7:44:19 PM Mac: The crime rate in Kennesaw Georgia was pretty bad, until the city council passed a law that every citizen must own a fire arm. The crime nearly dropped to zero. An (legally) armed society, is a polite society. |

Thursday, February 21, 2013 7:29:13 PM Spring City, Utah's town council is encouraging everyone in town to own a gun? Well, that sounds like progress. It's generally the places where each person owns their very own gun that usually have trouble. Other than that, I somehow doubt that the person that made up this Americo-centric collection of piffle has really considered how little a shyt the World gives about what men do. I doubt 2013 will spell the end of humanity, much less the world, and even if it does I'm betting Michelle Obama's haircut will have little to do with the matter |
