Wednesday, February 20, 2013 9:13:16 AM The point I am making is that most people- religious or not, are decent and kind, they just want to get on with their lives. A small minority use religion of any variety to excuse behaving like a twat- so can we not get hung up on which God they choose to excuse their behaviour and concentrate on how they behave. Demonising Muslims, demonising Christians is diverting attention from the actual problem- which is behaving badly, oppressing other people and trying to explain that behaviour with religion- or race, or some other rubbish. It is all just the same when you take its clothes of- power. |

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 9:07:37 AM I suspect that the number of teenagers taking their lives, the number of public figures denouncing homosexuality etc may have something to do with it. Tod Aiken ( ?) Sarah Bachman- these are public figures making statements of an extreme nature. Are you therefore surprised that the world sees your county in that way? |

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 8:45:23 AM I know plenty of very sensible Muslims- and just as you see all Muslims as terrorists, just remember that half the world thinks half of the USA is creationist gay bashers.... |

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 7:22:45 AM Of course there have been many people killed in the name of religion- but there have been evil deeds done by humans for millennia- not all of religion is bad, it has many positive benefits. That bit I mentioned about inflicting your beliefs upon others- that covers it really. Humans are quite unpleasant creatures in many respects- and they like to think they are right- but if we attack all aspects of religion then decent people who DO believe will defend their belief. If you attack bad behaviour done in the NAME of religion then those who behave well will support you. God is imaginary- so all behaviour done in the NAME of God is done by people- who just like being bullies. most people who believe are harmeless, just a few try to rally the rest to the extremes... best not give them reason to hear the cry. |

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 6:45:13 AM @Madduck Oh, please. There have been more people killed in the name of religion than for any other reason. All faiths have a tally of those deaths on their hands. Thats a lot of the reason that I'm atheist. |

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 6:25:42 AM Crakr- you miss the point by a mile, you want respect for your sensible, moderate religious views- well then, you show that respect to sensible moderate Islam. You want to be branded a fundamental extremist- then behave like an intolerant a.hole. You are both entitled to believe what you want- you are NOT entitled to inflict that on anyone else... they should not treat women like crap- neither should your lot...Islam, Christian, Jewish- all perfectly fine religions which have brought wonderful things to us all, but each one has also grown a branch of misogynist idiots who think they are 'right'- it is that behaviour the rest of us hate.... |

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 5:09:25 AM I guess she doesnt know too much about her countrys' dominant religion. She is wrong, and the islamist extremists are right in this context. Unless she is not a muslim, in which case shes out of place there, not them. Anyways, it seems that now arrogant big mouthed know nothing attention whores are now coming out in Tuisia, thats 'Arab Spring' progress for ya. I wouldent want any woman in my life risking her safety in that way just to have the satisfaction of spouting meaningless misconceptions against a bunch of angry men. These people can mess you up, its not worth it either which way. It seems rebellious and heroic untill they mess you up. Then you're traumatized for life and your family suffers. Hope that doesnt happen to her, just saying she got a selfish and dangerous attitude. |

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 2:18:39 AM These islamist extremists are growing, not only abroad but in Europe and the USA. What's really obscene is that many liberals tell us to respect this racist/sexist/bigoted muslim religion, yet get upset because a church wants to put a nativity scene in a local park for Christmas. Hey liberals, if you really want to 'change the world' how about you go over there and protect her rights, since her's are the most endangered, and quit being a pest to Christians here at home. Too chicken? I thought so. |

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 12:00:11 AM goallejerry thinks that the natural end all of all civilizations is Western Liberalism. This is Eurocentric thinking, though. The fact is that Western style moderates are hard to come by in these countries and they don't generally see themselves as wanting to progress towards a culture they have been in constant opposition to for over a thousand years. Liberal secularists are rare, most of those who are secular are often Socialist Authoritarians. Egyptians I have spoken to said that the educated, urban intelligentsia that we often hear about is probably 5%, no more than 10%. And taking this into account, we understand how "The Innocence of Muslims" killed so many people around the world, while a SNL sketch of "Djesus Uncrossed" didn't kill anyone or make anyone angry. By the way, there is no proof this even happened. And this woman probably doesn't like gay people. She's probably more conservative than one of those racist American Southerners. Etc. |

Tuesday, February 19, 2013 9:50:08 PM "Well, I'm sure a woman's opinion will silence a group of male islamic fundamentalists." Dr. Martin Luther King openly marched through KKK territory, and supporters of the civil rights movement did far braver things (like walking or being) in places of the south that didn't take kindly to coloreds, and some of those places still don't. Where is the KKK now? (Rhetorical question gerry - I know where you stand on this) |

Tuesday, February 19, 2013 9:49:47 PM "who cares?" Freedom cares, a-hole. And you should too. Why? Because that chick is doing what American women did 100 years ago - standing up to oppressive men dispite the real threat of physical violence. I believe, with every ounce of my being, that some man in that crowd saw her and, while booing and joining the anti-freedom protest - HAD THE SEEDS OF DOUBT PLANTED. YOU KNOW HOW YOU GROW A FOREST?? PLANT LOTS OF FUC*KING TREES. Some seedlings don't germinate. Most die. But that doesn't stop the maple from dropping it's seed pods and TRYING. We should funnel money to women's lib groups in Islamic counties as a way of undermining their governments. Don't kid yourself that that isn't already happening.....seeding dissent and political unrest IS WHAT WE DO. |
