Demonizing muslims that force sexist/racist/bigoted 'sharia law' onto society is fair game in my book. Sorry, but that sort of so called 'justice' is from the stone age and should not be part of modern civilized society.

We're far down the rabbit hole today - I agree with CrakrJak.

Although I think that the stone age was probably generally a lot better.

Incidentally, I don't live in a charming little village. I live in a city which was, not very long ago, chosen as the worst place to live in England. It's a economically depressed dump since the local industry collapsed. I'd add that it's run by blithering idiots, but where isn't?

A few months ago, I fell in the street (someone had dropped a cable and I got my feet caught in it). I was running and went down quite hard, ending up on my back in the gutter. I banged my head, which of course bled a fair bit, and being rammed into the edge of the kerb didn't do my shoulder much good.

Random strangers came over immediately to help. One called an ambulance. One lent me her phone to call work to tell them I wouldn't be in. One had medical training and checked me over. They all waited until I was safely in the ambulance.

This kind of thing happens every day. The twats and violent nutters stand out, but most people are reasonably decent as individuals.

I've found the average person on the street, or in line at 7-11, is a selfish jerk who doesn't care how much inconvenience they cause others as long as they get their own way. Hell, you only have to look at how most people drive to know this is true. No consideration for others, unless they are in a situation where they HAVE to... like at work where they can be fired if they aren't moderately considerate.

I've not found that. I've found that most people are moderately decent as individuals. Group mentality is when it all goes to pot. "I" is usually fine. "We" is all too often a nutjob.

Random example to follow in the next tiny fragment this site allows us to write.

This is true drawman61, but just because someone claims something in the name of a religion doesn't make it part of that religion.

madduck: I believe you're taking a lot of those bad 'examples' either out of context or just plain made up.

Trying to teach kids good morals isn't always easy, I've seen dozens of examples on shows like 'Maury' and 'Beyond Scared Straight'. It would've never crossed my mind to steal a car, rob someone's house, get a girl pregnant or abuse my parents. Nowadays those exploits seem almost commonplace for teens.

So where do these bad role models come from? Everywhere! TV, internet, movies, music and magazines are all corrupting our societal morals. The breakup of the two parent family is another factor.

If something isn't done to straighten up the coming generations and correct the immorality of mainstream media we will literally be up sh|t creek. Otherwise these kids won't give a damn about taking care you or me and they'll shrug off the burden of doing so like a flea on a hairless dog.

Faith is the abandonment of evidence to maintain a certain view. It is also the leading cause of conflict.

Mmm- bad reason to be atheist- you can't choose not to believe in gravity- I suspect you are an atheist because there is no evidence to support a God. Bad things might have been done in the name of God- but not because of Him 9 him not being real 'n all)- they were done because the people doing it wanted something- usually power.

Oh, please. There have been more people killed in the name of religion than for any other reason. All faiths have a tally of those deaths on their hands. Thats a lot of the reason that I'm atheist.

Amen to that

Yeah Gerry- I stayed with a friend in New York, she told me to stop smiling and nodding to her neighbours as they thought I was mad. I nearly got arrested because I went for a walk- security followed me for about 20 minutes... hilarious!!!

LOL @ McGovern

Madduck - Here, if you say "Hi" to a stranger they size you up to see what kind of children you will sire before they will reply. Usually I don't make the grade - old farts rarely do.

So Crakr- do you agree with demonising Jews who cover their hair? Or Christians who treat kids like rubbish because they are gay and deny them contraception / Mormons who throw their children out if they don't believe- men like Governor Perry who said non Christians should not be allowed in the USA? I hope so- it would be hypocritical if you didn't.

LOL Gerry, you are a bunch of sweetness and love today aren't you. But pretty much yeah, truly nasty people though are not common and they will be nasty no matter what they believe. People who will do what everyone else is doing though- they are everywhere! but I live in a small town where we say Good morning to strangers- an old lady had her bag snatched a couple of years ago- but I have not locked a door for 25 years...

madduck - so the point you're making is that, if they think they can be identified in a line up, people will behave nicely. Otherwise they are irritating twats.

Did I get that right?

Maybe Gerry- but get that same person on their own and they change- in crowds we stop seeing people as people- that arse who drives like an arrogant nutter is probably still an arrogant arse- but he won't willingly hurt a person- with a name and a life, he might hurt a nameless non-person. Which still does not detract from the point I am making.
