i totally knew all this from playing assassins creed 2 and watching the borgias. unfortunately playing assassins creed 2 and brotherhood has spoiled quite a bit for the borgias, but its nothing i wouldnt have learned if a i had payed paid attention in history class. |

PS just seen the ambiguity of that last post. I meant when they appoint you Pope, some priest gropes you, as opposed to being appointed, say,altarboy, when.....oh how about that! |

Does that mean they don't do that thing with the chair with no seat any more, where someone gives you a grope to see if you've got, umm, a full set? On the grounds that (a) you might be a woman who snuck through all the previous stages or (b) a eunuch, in which case celibacy is too easy? |

A "Doctor of Divinity" seems like such a self-contradictory term. I mean, what? After your Masters, you write a thesis on how many baptisms John performed, your teachers say "Yup!" and you're a doctor? A doctor of baseless beliefs sort of denigrates the title "doctor," dunnit? |
