@carmium: the trouble with your advice is that you're crediting people that you identify as not being able to identify "good art" as somehow nonetheless being able to identify good artists. I've come to the conclusion most people can't tell good advice from bad advice. |

If you're going to get a tattoo portrait of someone, spend the money on an expert portrait artist.

As someone with a modicum of artistic ability, I have come to the conclusion that most people simply can't tell good from bad art, as long as it's better than they can do. So if they look at a tattooist's portfolio of amateurish art, they are too easily impressed. I often see people fawning and nodding over really quite poor crafts and art pieces at markets while truly impressive work in the next stand is ignored.
Conclusion: if getting a portrait or other difficult tattoo, bring an artist along with you! |
