For everybody siding with the cops on this one, what the actual hell? I don't care, I seriously don't care. She was on her phone. God forbid she talks on her phone.
Real talk? Guys, remember the days when you didn't have to wear a seatbelt, and you could ride in the back of a truck? Yeah? I do, over protective laws instated by scared individuals are what are giving police the power to act like this.
The cop who forced her to the ground took out his frustration on a person in an inappropriate way, there did not need to be more then one cop in this situation. The fact that she was pregnant only makes this all the worse. People should never be treated like this for anything. There is no 'asking' to be treated like a sub human. There are only people who act like it's necessary. Be ashamed of yourself for suggesting that she deserved it. If I were that cop, I would have taken her licence plate down and sent her a bloody ticket in the mail. Job done.

let me guess patchouly...you wanted to be a cop when you were growing up..but now you just police this website. "A cops job is hard enough without idiots thinking they don't have to listen"? I am sure you know this first hand when you got you 300 pound butt off your chair from in front of your computer to walk outside last year? -I see you are from Canada...Talk to me about cops in the US when you live in the US. I don't agree with you.. and the judge who awarded this women $250K doesn't agree with you either. One more thing, just because a person doesn't listen to a cop when they scream at them, doesn't make that person a criminal, nor do they deserve to be slammed to the ground. Cops can be wrong as well ..and crooked ..and ignorant. Turn off the Fox news and go out and see the world...it's not as scary as you may think. -and pregnant women on cellphones aren't scary either..even if the police and the news want you to believe it.

There's no sidewalk, it's the shoulder of the road with a metal guardrail. Plenty of room to pull over there.

@piperfawn - No. She pulls onto the shoulder that is about as wide as a regular lane and then goes back onto the road well before they reach the construction barriers. Watch the first 52 seconds of the clip, she had plenty of room to pull over. The first barrier looks like they're on a small overpass bridge, then the shoulder widens again before the construction zone. Once she passes the construction barrier she cuts to the left and into traffic.

I am more in the point than you.

Ummmm what??

Is a police medic a doctor? Because if he isn't then there is no hippocratic oath.

Nurses don't take it?? Not sure what the qualifications are for a police medic but I'm pretty sure they reat all not just police.

whodat6484 if you watch the video carefully after she move out the first time there were no other possibility for her to move out again cause of the barriers of road work.

"To Protect & To Serve" means only themselves...

You are correct, and the Supreme Court has confirmed this.

The "maybe she was confused and didn't know they were pulling her over so she was trying to get out of the way" argument doesn't work either. When you see a cop turn on his party lights you move out of the way so they can pass. If they stay behind you and don't pass, common sense dictates that you're the one they're pulling over.

Yes she was stupid, but he was criminal. That 'fall' could have seriously compromised her pregnancy.

I'm no expert but being in a car crash because you were talking on your cell phone could also compromise your pregnancy.

Besides that ever heard of the Hippocratic Oath?

@piperfawn - Yes, that is a police medic in the picture McGovern1981 posted. In that picture this police medic has his nightstick raised as if he's about to start beating someone over the head.

@patchouly - I agree with your assessment of handmadebeat.

dognose82 she was swerving over the line to let the police pass cause is obvious that at the beginning the woman was not aware that they was after her. Anyway how in the hell you pretend that someone stop in a road so trafficated and with work in progress? Maybe the cop was so intent on eating his 5 donuts that he didn't pay attention to the situation.

MacGuffin, I understand your confusion. The police are not there to "protect the public". They are there to keep the peace. Right/wrong... justice... those are for the courts to worry about. All the cops care is that you toe the line. Do NOT make a disturbance, do not step out of line.

Their job is to keep you in line.

I'm not saying Chris Dorner had a point, but Chris Dorner.....he had a point. Say what you like about President Assad's thugs, but at least they don't have the gall to pretend what they do is about serving or protecting the public.
