It means that there's just the tiniest little bit of cognitive dissonance taking hold in your brain as you try to reconcile the conflicting ideas that your country somehow represents the ideals of "bravery" and "freedom" whilst simultaneously incarcerating millions of your fellow citizens (usually the weakest ones like teenage girls for instance) for minor 'offences' like annoying judges, and only ever picking fights with tiny backwards countries that can't fight back.

And next week she is back out on the streets and a week later will be doing drugs she can't steal from her parents. Leave the bitch in jail while she does rehab, and 1 yr probation. Then it will have some meaning |

Tbh, I think even less of the judge now than before. He's a typical coward: backing down once someone that can beat him at his own game (a defence lawyer that knows what they're doing) gets involved. He's a douchebag for sure. I doubt thirty days would have made any lasting difference to this girl's life. (Maybe elsewhere in the world having a prison sentence on your record would make some difference to a person's employability, but given how common an occurrence it is in the US you guys have pretty much run out of options: you'd never have enough workers if you were to exclude anyone that'd served a jail sentence from being employed). Whether or not she served the time, the judge is still a douchebag that'll likely end up getting his comeuppance on the street some day. Nothing to see here. Just some irrelevant minor judge trying to wring a little more out of his 15 minutes. |

Sooner or later you Yanks will realise your justice system is just a bad joke your politicians play on the rest of you dumb enough to not only put up with but pay for it. Until then, it's just a weird side show for the Rest Of The World to shake its head at. When you're sending a teenage girl off to the rape factories that are your prisons just for annoying some self-important arsehole that was goading her into reacting, and play the whole thing out on TV so the rest of your sick society can enjoy its Two Minutes Hate, there's something pretty wrong with that. It's almost enough to make you forget the big crimes like abduction, torture, murder and invasion committed by your government with your wilful disinterest and/or support. Almost, but not quite. |

I was relieved to see this. She admits that she was on Xanax in court that day she flipped the judge off. And after seeing her contrition, the judge exhibited some compassion and rescinded the rest of her jail time on condition that she enter a rehab program. All's well that ends well. Let's hope she's learned a lot and can go forth and do great things after the treatment. =^.^= |

I thought he was a cool judge the first time, when he didn't let that poo slide. Now I think he is even cooler for cutting her a break. She obviously got a lot of help from her lawyer, which she must not have had the first time around? Kids are stupid, but need to be held accountable, at the same time kids are stupid, and hopefully the learning experience helped her more than the severe punishments would have. |
