I'll forgive them for what they've done, for they've realised it's wrong, it's deeply hurtful. Not only have they realised it, they want to stop doing it any more. Everyone deserves a second chance.

Signed, an atheist.

So much hate for these young women. Since they could talk they were brainwashed that they were doing god's work, that they were the only truly good people, that they were the only hope for the world. All day every day from four or five years old. That was the only message they got. They were programmed to chant and told it was god's work.

Inflicting pain in order to bring others to god is commonplace and has been for millenia. They broke their programming and got free. I'd say good for them but Draculya apparently thinks they should burn in hell.

Sadly there is no hell for them to burn in.

How come we don't see drama like this playing out in the Church of Scientology?

The Westboro Baptist Church is merely the Phelps family, no one else. And 30% of the family will no longer have anything to do with them; haven't talked in 25 years. And now there's two more. These people are not "men and women of the cloth", they are hateful crazies that have been hurting people "in the name of God" for decades; at 22,000 protests around the world. Two of the clan want forgiveness, after all the poo they've pulled? Yeah, good luck with that. I'm not even convinced this story is true. I'll believe it when I see it.

I, too, was wondering what Kevin Smith's reaction to this news is. I hope he continues to have communication with her. She needs all the friends she can get.

We'll see what they do from here, but, to me, you don't get to pretend like what you did "wasn't meant to hurt people." Yes. It was. You don't protest as funerals, chanting that "God hates fags" without wanting to inflict pain. To pretend otherwise is to pretend that you're not human.

I hope they've changed. Really and truly. And I support them if they are trying. But go on ahead and be honest. It is designed to hurt. It is designed to draw attention. And there is no good intention in what they did.

@markust123 - I've seen it, that's what I thought was so scary about it. Even though I don't think they ever said it or will admit to it, but there's no doubt that they had the WBC in mind while making that movie.

Do they know that their previous actions are not their fault. It was Xenu all along. If they seek help they can get clear.

You should watch the movie Red State @whodat6484. It's pretty obvious it is supposed to be a Phelps showdown. That movie screwed with my head.

I sincerely wish them peace and happiness, to turn away from such indoctrination is so hard. I hope they get the love and support they will need.

These two girls risked being cut off from their families forever (and they now are). They can't change the past, nor could they choose how they were raised. They can't change that they were abused and brainwashed. They had no control over it.

Frankly, you are a jerk. Even those who don't believe in god should learn how to forgive and forget in order to make this world a better place.

We all make mistakes - some bigger than others, and some because we were raised in a bad environment and we didn't know any better. We can't change the past, but we can work on the future.

I'm an Atheist, and I have a heart. You should, too.

The attention those WBC nut bags get is disproportionate to their actual impact on society.

They left because that L Ron Hubbard commercial convinced them to join Scientology.

Their suicide would be an honest apology.Anything less than that offends ME. Since there is no god,you are even more useless now than you were as a Westboro member. As a member, you served as a bad example, now, you're just a failure.
