OT, I was chatting with a friend of mine from Ireland who like me works in the oil industry. We were discussing the trials and tribulations of getting through US Border Control with dodgy passports (i.e. full of visas from unsavoury places).
Quote Davy: "Off to Houston tomorrow. Should be a blast as always at US Border Control. "So let's see here. I see from your passport you've recently been to Iran, Libya, Syria, Algeria, Iraq... Quote my buddy, in reply: "Let me know if they ask you "why do you travel to the Soviet Union", (known to the rest of the world as Russia) - I answered "I travel there on business on behalf of an American company" only to be told that "no real American company does business there"......... |

The only thing I know about russians is that they get drunk on vodka at about age 13, and then never actually sober up....ever. Just keep a steady flow of vodka going. |

Yes, this is mostly a stereotype.
#2 Russians don't have guns
Bullpoo, even though legal guns are hard to come by, but illegal ones are common.
When my stepdad was in Russia in '99, he tried to buy a fake watch, and a guy tired to sell him a whole case of military-spec fully automatic Kalashnikovs.
#3 No one in Russia has nesting dolls
True, at least partially. Every single old lady has some.
#4 People in Russia are NOT alcoholics
BULLpoo! I've seen a Russian drink vodka, it was terrifying.
The only person I've seen drink more faster was a Finn.

"Everybody thinks that there is nothing but beautiful women in Russia". Not to disparage Russian women (some of whom are beautiful), but is this really a 'stereotype' that exists anywhere else but this guy's mind? Next I'll be telling you that everybody thinks Scotland is full of six-foot-six, kilt-wearing hunks. As opposed to the five-foot-four hipster gingers that are more the norm. |
