Saturday, February 02, 2013 2:11:33 AM sure they don't get sued for breach of privacy by sue happy america. Someone in the same area as you might be able to work out the information. Or recognise the receipt if it has a bit more information like a mandatory 18% on it... But if 5cats was in same time and ate similar places as you he could work it out. He lives in Canada means he won't |

Saturday, February 02, 2013 2:00:01 AM @whodat6484 here is a copy of the original It has an easy to identify signature if you know the person. That will give you the area. The original photo was taken from a phone. That makes it likely it had a gps location stored in it's data. The layout and format of the receipt can be remembered or recognised by people in the area. Takes them checking their own receipt from the night before if they are inclined. That is a lot of identifiable information of the customer and then the restaurant by association. As 5cats said it takes just one person to release the details with the picture online and the poo hit the fan. The Pastor has had to remove her twitter and Facebook pages for the abuse. Pastor rung applebees they fired the worker in line with their privacy policy and has a gesture to make |

Friday, February 01, 2013 10:39:11 PM @5Cats - You said, "@WhoDat: The "Merchant ID" is clearly visible, and identifies Applebees." The only reason you know it's Applebees is because you had prior knowledge from reading the story. If you picked up a receipt somewhere with a Merchant ID on it, you can't trace it to a particular store unless you run around looking for more receipts to match it hoping one has the name on it. I'm simply telling you that a Merchant ID alone is not all you need to easily identify where that receipt came from. Here's a receipt with a Merchant ID, tell me when you find out what specific restaurant this receipt comes from, I already know the answer.

Friday, February 01, 2013 9:04:07 PM @WhoDat: WTF are you "on about"? Are you denying that one person with a reciept from the same store is all that's required to KNOW which restaurant is involved? NO! Are you putting forth evidence that the waitress involved DID NOT identify Applebee's in her postings? NO! I PUT FORTH: her origional post contained: enough information to track the restaurant enough information to track the customer. Sober up, bro, and deal with the FACTS. All it takes is ONE person, and it's no longer "private" eh? Thus Chelsea violated the rules, violated the laws and disregarded common decency. PERIOD. Sorry to be so stern with you, I'm in a foul mood... |

Friday, February 01, 2013 6:44:56 PM @5Cats - You keep throwing that Merchant ID out there which was bullsh*t the first time you said it and it's still bullsh*t now. You just like to argue so that's probably why you keep saying it. You should get a job here, it's perfect for you. I'm sure you're also the kind of guy that would throw someone under the bus without giving it a second thought if you stand to gain something from it. |

Friday, February 01, 2013 6:28:03 PM @WhoDat: As I said, all it takes is one person with a reciept from the same restaurant and it's 100% ID'd. Chelsae messed up, she got fired, BIG FREAKING DEAL! It's her fault and hers alone. If she'd BOTHERED to clip off the ID and signature? Nothing would have happened to her. But she was lazy. She ONLY has herself to blame. |

Friday, February 01, 2013 6:19:27 PM applebees had good reason to fire her. the pastor may have been a c*nt, but that doesnt mean she deserves all this negative attention (can you imagine the amount of people trying to get a hold of her just so they can insult her). the waitress screwed herself over by not having enough sense to post the receipt with out the pastors signature in the first time. be careful what you post on the internet, you never know how itll come back to bite you in the ass. |

Friday, February 01, 2013 5:57:45 PM What bothers me the most, and by reading the comments on Facebook it seems like most people feel the same, is that they showed no loyalty to their employee whatsoever. Once the picture went viral they went into damage control mode and fired the waitress without thinking twice. The least they could have done was do some kind of investigation and then make a decision once all concerned parties had made statements about the incident. They expect their employees to pledge their loyalty to the company but will immediately fire them and wash their hands like it never happened. |

Friday, February 01, 2013 5:34:09 PM Show me where you can look up Merchant ID's from credit card receipts (with no store name on it, of course) and I'll buy your excuse that "The 'Merchant ID' is clearly visible, and identifies Applebees." |

Friday, February 01, 2013 5:31:29 PM That may be so @WhoDat, but since I have no idea what her origional post consisted of, I just thought I'd mention that. She later tried to "edit it out" but it was far too late. Anyone with a reciept from the same store? They'd know 100% which one it was, eh? IDK what her post and comments were, she might have directly (or indirectly) let people know it was Applebee's that way too. Anyhow, it's not like she went TO JAIL or something! Waiters & waitresses get fired a lot, for the stupidest reasons, it's part of the job. |

Friday, February 01, 2013 5:25:39 PM The Merchant ID may be visible but from what I've read, it takes a lot more than a simple Google search to look it up. The number is unique to each store and is used by banks and credit card companies to identify that particular business. |
