This kind of awareness is good, it helps other gay men to come out and embrace their sexuality, and also to raise tolerance towards homosexuals. |

I don't watch news - just read it. I also read the gay blogs and I see all the black kids that hang themselves because of the gay bullying. And I see the absolute lack of news coverage. Cute white kid and it is all over the news. It's not just the gay kids. Look at JonBenet Ramsey. The only exception I've seen is when a white guy kills a black kid then it is game on for some reason. |

Because he is white and handsome. Haven't you learned how the news works yet? If a black kid is murdered for being gay it will barely make the local news. Murder a cute blond boy for being gay and it will make national news for months. Even when dealing with gay issues there is still racism in the handling of the story, or maybe it is race favoritism. Whatever it is, sadly, racism is alive and well in America. |

I just don't get it. Not the being gay part, but the coming out and the celebration of it. Announcing the gender of person who arouses you shouldn't be the only thing I know about you, but for this kid, it is. |

Point is though- the more people who come out publicly, the more normal being gay or trans becomes, the more normal it is, the safer it is. Then perhaps it will be safe and not as alienating for a poor black kid to come out. Perception matters. If bigots can see that they are the ones who are laughed at and vilified they might slink away... |

Good for him, but I agree with Cherrybawls, he's not that special. Also, I believe he's from New Jersey. Coming out in New Jersey is not so admirable. Definitely not admirable enough to warrant this post. Next you'll see a post about a boy coming out in Chelsea, Manhattan.
You know who I would admire? A poor black kid from the projects in Mississippi coming out to his male friends. That is risky, that is alienating. |
