Yes. However, here is a HUGE difference. You have to EARN the right to drive and demonstrate that you can do it before you get a license to be able to drive legally. Remember driver's ed? The driving test?
So would you support a similar process for gun ownership? Take a class, pass a written test, and then demonstrate an ability to operate it safely before you get a license to operate or posses a gun?

I think if you put a minimum IQ bar for gun owners you'd seriously reduce gun crime in the states.

Cajun, number of people killed in pencil related accidents/suicides/homicides last year? 10 maybe? Number of gun related? A thousand time that. Now I can tell you with absolute *certainty* that there are a lot more pencils in the US than guns.
Guns are tools for KILLING. That is their only purpose. Hunting = KILLING. Target shooting = practice for KILLING.
Fine, let the militia keep their guns, like it says in the constitution, but for gods sake get them out of the hands of the public who are by gods A THOUSAND times too stupid to handle them safely.
It is not a "natural right" to own a tool designed purely for efficient killing just on the *minute* off chance that you get an opportunity to use it legitimately *and* have the presence of mind not to just spray bullets randomly about. Your family are in vastly more danger from the ACTUAL gun in your closet than the IMAGINED at-some-point-in-the-future home intruder. |

Calling for banning guns based on this would be comparable to banning cars based on all of the Russian Driving videos on IAB.
Or banning bikes, skateboards and playground equipment based on all the Fail vidoes posted. |

Several of these are not in the US, so the 2nd Amendment does not apply.
Some people are not responsible with guns. Same can be said of cars, knives, blunt objects, computers and Freedoms (to name a few).
They will take away your cars, computers and freedoms when you demonstrate you can not be responsible with it.
But for some reason, small minded idiots want to take away guns from EVERYONE prior to any such demonstration. |

Oh well that's fantastic, tell that to the families of the tens of thousands of people who lose their lives annually due to firearms: "don't worry love, I know your son accidentally killed your other son because you left a loaded gun lying around, but at least he learned a valuable lesson!"

Blaming the second amendment for this is like blaming Betty Crocker for cutting yourself with a knife.
Also not all of those are Americans, and many (not all) of them were learning the proper use of a gun at what appeared to be gun ranges. Of those who were learning the proper use of a gun (as they should), they have learned a valuable lesson, and will most likely not make the same mistake. |
