The point is, people are so obsessed with nonsense (faking the moon landing, engineering 9/11, intentionally blowing up levees), that they're blind to the evil our government is ACTUALLY doing ($1.5 trillion deficits, setting up death panels to kill old people, shutting down the coal and oil industries, selling guns to Middle East terrorists and Mexican drug lords, repealing the 2nd, 9th and 10th Amendments, among others, intentionally destroying our economy to get record numbers of people dependent on government and protecting a Secretary of State who is guilty of negligent homicide at best and intentional, pre-meditated murder of a United States Ambassador at worst). If the Russians could have rained on that parade, they would, and you can bet they had agents in place in NASA and the rest of the government just trying to prove fakery. Also, am I right in thinking that the real detailed conspiracy theories didn't start till after "Capricorn One"? |

There have been pictures, but there's nothing very clear because to get a clear photo you'd have to do a lunar mission. Photographing small objects on the moon's surface that don't emit light requires a pretty close pass. The photos taken from space show blobs and smears. It's irrelevant anyway, because conspiracy believers have faith that all evidence is fake. If they think that the thousands of photos and hours of video from the Apollo missions were faked in 1969 and the early 70s, of course they'll think that any modern photos are fake. It would be far easier to fake them today. So what's the point in paying to send a camera close enough to the moon to take photos of the landing site? |

Also, it would have been pointless and spectacularly dangerous even if we had spent the mind-boggling fortune necessary to make it possible. The technology doesn't exist and if we made it exist all we'd have is a useless base underground on the moon, utterly dependent on frequent resupply ships from the Earth. Too much money, not enough usefulness. |

It makes no sense to spend loads of money and run the risk of a massive political scandal in the middle of the cold war by faking it when you could do it for real with the stuff you'd already built and the lunar mission you'd have to pay for anyway (because many people were tracking the ship and the signal source and the reflector array, so they had to do a lunar mission). The conspiracy "theory" makes no damn sense at all. |

Faking them *now* would be possible and less difficult than doing them for real. With a big enough budget, enough time and enough talent you could CGI it. Faking them in 1969 and the early 70s wasn't possible. It's not just that it was as difficult as doing them for real. It's not even that it would have been more difficult. It would have been impossible. For example, you can't fake unpowered objects moving in low g and a powered object (such as a person) moving in the same shot without today's cutting edge CGI. You'd have to fake those huge, expensive rockets! Might as well just build real ones... And that's another approach - why spend all the money to build all the stuff and send it to the moon and then spend loads more faking it? |
