Friday, January 25, 2013 6:12:54 PM E-coli don't evolve into people but they do spontaneously de-evolve into State Senators occasionally. |

CrakrJak, "What this senator clumsily questioned was that E.Coli didn't change to another species, and of course it didn't." You're a smart guy. You know, according to the "theory" of evolution, that it takes a very long time to evolve into a new species. The fact we have not been observing long enough to point to a new species doesn't invalidate evolution. It is observable, measurable and real. |

Once again the church makes the same mistake it has always made. INFLEXABILITY Historically speaking, whenever religion has gone against science, Science always wins. Oh, the religious might temporarily slow science with it's refusal to accept reality when it slaps them in the face, but in the long run {just like evolution} science wins. Bible says God created man so that is so and science is wrong. Bible says unicorns exist so science is wrong. Bible says there are dragons. Bible says you can live 600 years so you can. Bible says the earth is flat, well it infers it with the "4 corners" referance and science is wrong with those "globe" things. Bible say this is the center of the universe so obviously the Sun moves around us :) When are you guys going to learn? Just because evolution is real does not mean you can't still have a God. Perhaps a tool He used to make you? I don't believe that, you go ahead. |

Wednesday, January 23, 2013 9:31:48 AM @Crakr: Your definition of evolution is dead wrong. Viruses evolve through mutation of their DNA or RNA and subsequently those better adapted outcompete their rivals. This is evolution. Speciation is NOT required for evolution. Viruses evolve, just like E. Coli and every other living organism. |

Wednesday, January 23, 2013 9:02:53 AM broizfam: No matter how much E.Coli, or another cell, adapts, we have never seen speciation. Without a change in species there is no evolution, even Darwin noted that that was a major flaw in his own theory. What this senator clumsily questioned was that E.Coli didn't change to another species, and of course it didn't. Even viruses don't evolve, because they don't even have their own full DNA chain, they need another cell to do that adaptation for them. Without that symbiosis viruses would just disappear, completely. |

Wednesday, January 23, 2013 6:56:59 AM does anyone here on IAB truly think that we were created by god 6 thousand or so years ago? that the fact that are our DNA is almost identical to chimps and orangutans is just a coincidence? c'mon. I will go as far as to concede that MAYBE evolution is a tool that god uses, but maybe it's time to stop taking the bible literally? |

Wednesday, January 23, 2013 6:50:40 AM Nothing wrong with religion, but you should keep these people away from big decision making. the separation of church and state is vital a vital step forward for the future of civilzation, and you want to let your government step backwards? it almost seems hypocritical waging war on the taliban and muslim fundamentalists when you idiots like this in power. |

Tuesday, January 22, 2013 4:57:46 PM "Adaptation doesn't prove speciation or evolution." Agreed. But it does show that life adapts with time, need and opportunity. The theory is that sequential adaptive changes over thousands of generations causes the evolution of different species. So it forms a reasonably sound basis for that theory. I'm guessing you already knew all that, CrakrJak |

Tuesday, January 22, 2013 3:49:51 PM I wish scientists would just try to get elected as senators. Or maybe we should just make a rule that people who want to get elected need education in various subjects in order to become our representatives.

Tuesday, January 22, 2013 2:37:02 PM To be fair, I didn't actually watch the video earlier before making a flippant comment. Now that I have, it seems pretty obvious to me that he wasn't literally asking such a dumb question as "does e coli evolve into a person". Rather, he was using that question as a rhetorical device to highlight his point of view, which appeared to be that the experiment being described didn't prove that people came about as a consequence of the same evolutionary processes being described in bacteria. So, he's still dumb, but for a whole other reason than I first thought. |
