As for cutting an engine off thats a bad idea in most lorries as the braking systems work a little differently (I can well imagine theres systems to prevent what I'm about to say if it does indeed cut the engine) The brakes without power are on and turning the engine on takes them off, when you are hitting the brake, you are breaking the circuit and turning the servo on and off in very quick intervals, essentially a backwards variant of a cars ABS system. The issue with Turnign the engine off is that the brakes will apply solidly and potentially cause jackknifing Feel free to correct me as I may well be wrong but this is how I've had it explained to me by a few Tesco Lorry drivers |

It not only scrubs off the tires, it scares the living $#!+ out of both drivers and is likely to cause a rear-end collision if it's being followed by another truck, not to mention that if it hits a slick spot, he'll be 3 yards up the car's ass before he can cinch the pucker string. Wouldn't it be better to have it slow down so as to maintain a reasonable following distance before it gets close enough to dry-hump your exhaust pipe? |

That's just regular retardedly strong hydraulic brake pads. I'm sure these trucks have engine braking as well considering it reduces break pad and disc wear substantially, but you'd know if this were an engine break. Never seen a "No engine breaking" sign on a major street near a residential area? |
